      IE 11 copy/paste problem

      It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

IE problems

8 posts in this topic

I am trying to figure out what is wrong with my daughter's computer.

When she tries to connect to the internet, she gets an error message that says some content advisor info is missing. Also, she can't get on the web. If I reset the Avisor settings, then she can get on SOMETIMES. Next time she tries, same thing and Advisor settings are back to what they were before. She doesn't have a problem with Yahoo Messenger or e-mail. We have a cable connection. I thought maybe someone could look at the HiJackthis log to see if anything needs to be cleaned out / fixed.

Thanks in advance,

Rita

Hi there,

First, run this Peper trojan uninstaller,

Download it Here Click on the peperfix link, and download the program. Then go off line, and run the program. It will remove the files, leaving one entry to be cleaned up with Hijack this.

Next,

You are running hijackthis from your desktop, this is not a good idea because when we do a fix hijackthis will create backups and they will be spread all over your desktop. Can you please create a folder in My Documents and call it Hijack (or something similar). Then extract hijackthis into the folder you have created and run it from there. When you have done that, delete the copy of hijackthis that you have on your desktop.

When you have done that, then make sure all browsers and windows are closed except for hijackthis and put a check against the following and click 'fix checked';

NOTE THE OPTIONAL FIXES

Restart your computer in

Safe Mode Also make sure you show hidden files Then delete the following files or folders as indicated below if they still show:

Not all or any of these may still show,

Reboot, then post a fresh logfile so that I can check to see if it is clean.

Hi there,

For some reason the latest log you have sent is from an older version of HJT, when the first was from the latest version. You should delete the older version. Make sure you place HJT in a permanent folder. Please follow the instructions set out below, thanks.

Please do this:

Update HijackThis to version 1.98

• run HijackThis

select config> misc tools and select "update online". then yes.

Run a scan and post a new Hijackthis log after you are done.

Next,

You are running hijackthis out of a temporary directory. Can you please create a folder in My Documents and call it Hijack (or something similar) like this C:\My Documents\hjt\HijackThis. Then extract hijackthis into the folder you have created and run it from there. The reason for this is that Hijackthis cannot create the backup files that you may need whilst it is being run from a temporary folder

Hi there,

Ok your log is now clean, I strongly recommend you do this;

Sometimes, when a PC is infected a copy of the file is backed up in your System Restore (XP and ME). By default, Windows prevents System Restore from being modified by outside programs, which includes your AntiVirus program.

One of the best features of Windows ME is the System Restore option, however if a virus infects a computer with this operating system the virus can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

Disabling System Restore does not delete or remove any of your personal data from your computer. The only files removed are those that System Restore created in the _RESTORE folder, the restore points.

Win ME

To disable System Restore:

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

2. On the Performance tab, click File System, or press ALT+F.

3. On the Troubleshooting tab, click to select the Disable System Restore check box.

4. Click OK twice, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.

5. To re-enable System Restore,( Only when your logfile has been confirmed as clean ) follow steps 1-3, but in step 3, click to clear the Disable System Restore check box.

Next;

You also need to Update Windows and Internet Explorer, to get all the Latest Security Patches that Protects Your Computer.

This can be accessed by going Here and following the prompts.

Next;

To provide future protection - I would advise you to download and install:

SpywareBlaster will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies. Download from Here

IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone, if you use IE, so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all. Download

Here

Both are very small free programs that you run once, and then just weekly to check for updates.

And also see

So how did I get infected in the first place?
