Does anyone know if this is a Spyware, Virus or just plain old System problem?

I am working on a computer that appears to work fine until I try to type something in the browser (Internet Explorer) address bar. At this point, the computer locks up. The mouse and keyboard won't respond either.

It also locks up if I try to use CTRL-ALT-DEL to view running processes.

It also hangs up if I go to Start-Run-CMD.

I can go to Windows Update and download new updates. I can scan with Norton Anti-Virus and it finds no viruses. I have used Spybot and removed any spyware, but it still hangs up when I try to type in the Address Bar.
Any help on where to go from here is greatly appreciated.

We need a closer look at what's happening.
Please download Hijack this
Copy it into its own folder, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, do Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.
Be wary of strong drink. It may make you shoot at tax collectors, and miss!
