OK, I've had it.....I can't seem to get rid of some of my problems and would like to format my harddrive and reinstall windows XP and start all over again.

I need help with the basic procedure for doing this;

1) back up data files

If anyone can help and walk me through this I would appreciate it.

Burn anything you want to keep to a CD. That means most of the c:\documents and settings\%username%\ folder. Although trust Microsoft to put useless stuff such as temporary files in there. Don't save those.

Save any documents, serial numbers, saved log in information, anything.

Then just boot from the cd to reinstall and tell it to format the hard drive.
