Hi,

OK, this is my first post and I've read the FAQs, but cannot find an answer to my specific question.

Norton Anti-Virus has detected the file SpywareNukerInstaller.exe on my PC and is identified each time I do a virus scan, but I am unable to remove it. The file appears to be located in C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files. However, although I have set the folder view options to display hidden and system files, I do not see the file. In fact the properties of the folder suggest there are more files and subfolders that I can physically see.

I have installed Spybot and performed a full scan, but it fails to identify any spyware (inc. SpywareNukerInstaller.exe) on my machine. However, in the Tools section under ActiveX, it does highlight (yellow warning symbol) that the CLSID RdxIE.dll is suspect and should be deleted. However, Spybot fails to remove this ActiveX control and is it not possible to remove it manually -- a warning message is displayed claiming that another application is using it. The properties of RdxIE suggest that the file is distributed by Real Networks, but I have since removed Real Player and the file is still locked.

So, is the RdxIE ActiveX control malware and how do I remove it? Is this file associated with SpywareNukerInstaller.exe or is this a separate problem?

I have noticed some strange behaviour with my machine, including random pop ups (most likely due to SpywareNuker software), ZoneAlarm Pro losing firewall settings and the True vector service, inability to send/receive email.

Any assistance much appreciated since this is driving me mad.

Thanks.

Since posting my question, I have run both Ad-Aware and Spybot and cleaned up my machine. Neither Ad-Aware nor Spybot identified that spywarenuker was resident. However, Norton Anti-Virus 2004 is still telling me that 1 file is spywarenukerinstaller.exe, but NAV cannot delete the file. Here is the detail from Spybot regarding the (suspected) file:

{56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class)
DPF name:
CLSID name: RdxIE Class
description: Netster

Attributes: archive
MD5: 012201D36BE9DDBAA3F06A907F7D61B2

Does this help?

Please be gentle, I'm new to this board and would really appreciate some guidance. Thanks.

Yup its Netster :). Can you remove it in safe mode. Also you may have other spyware. Please download Hijack This from my signature and post a log here. Note: Do not fix anything yet most of the stuff it enumerates is safe and some even critical.

For some reason, I was able to delete the RdxIE.dll file in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files without booting in safe mode.
