      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.   EDIT: I have asked our hosting service to do the restore at 9 PM Central time and it looks like it will go forward at that time.  Please prepare whatever you need to prepare so that we can restore your topics when the forum is stable again.

Always getting redirected to pornographic sites

4 posts in this topic

Whenever I type a URL in the address bar, instead of going to that website, my browser goes to a porn site. The names of the porn site are vids4adults.com and bigboobs.com. This is starting to become a big problem because it happens so often and unexpectedly. I have already run spysweeper, ad-aware, and spybot

Here is my HijackThis log. Please help me fix this problem. Thank you.

Well, I am no expert in the area but here's my $0.02.

Please check also this page and follow the same instructions... are you sure you are using the latest Ad-Aware?

Firstly, I don't recognize these running processes:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\slserv.exe

C:\WINDOWS\System32\WxwngMwt.exe

C:\WINDOWS\System32\MsPMSPSv.exe

C:\WINDOWS\System32\DlhR6z5p.exe

C:\WINDOWS\System32\taskmgn.exe

If you don't too, try killing them and see what happens.

The problem with the redirection is hopefully in these keys:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\DOCUME~1\SILASW~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mfplay.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\DOCUME~1\SILASW~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.emachines.com

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = file://C:\DOCUME~1\SILASW~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = file://C:\DOCUME~1\SILASW~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = file://C:\DOCUME~1\SILASW~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://www.emachines.com/

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}_ - (no file)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {317A7631-C1CD-4369-8CF2-F93FCF8C808E} - c:\windows\system32\gggodna.dll

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {98DBBF16-CA43-4c33-BE80-99E6694468A4} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msmk.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2N85L533MR#GJT] C:\WINDOWS\System32\SbziJQ.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe 1

O18 - Filter: text/html - {A0F6D87A-2A76-4003-8867-55582F35878C} - c:\windows\system32\gggodna.dll

O18 - Filter: text/plain - {A0F6D87A-2A76-4003-8867-55582F35878C} - c:\windows\system32\gggodna.dll

because:

a. It's extremely unlikely that you wanted to set the search page to be a file in the temp directory... ;)

b. gggodna is definitely a bad name for a DLL :)

c. I'm especially dubious about the last two entries. Unfortunately, I have no idea on how to remove these two items.

Try removing the lines marked with R0 and R1 from your registry, to begin with.

Let me know if you succeed in cleaning up your system.

I have run an updated ad-aware and followed some of your instructions. Here is my HijackThis log now. I have yet to see another pornographic redirection, but it hasn't been long yet and I'm not sure if it is completely fixed. Thanks for your help so far.
