Hi, my son has been playing on my computer a lot and downloading games. He is 10 years old so he mostly goes to cartoon network and nick.com. I had the virus taskmanager.exe and removed it and also something known as mIRC and removed that. However, my computer has been acting sluggish and also whenever I do a virus scan w/updated norton or updated spybot no problems are found. I believe I have problems lurking but I just can't find them. Can you please take a look and let me know if I have anything fishy on my computer? I have dsl but occasionally I will see my phone line 'in use' and when I hit speaker phone it sounds like a modem handshake. I read the FAQ section but am still a newby. Here is my hijack this log:

Thank you for your time and expertise in this matter....

Hello katladd,

It looks like you have a Trojan Horse running on your PC, Backdoor.Winet

Please download a Free Trial of Trojan Hunter at http://www.misec.net...rojanHunter.exe first.
Next, take a free Online Virus scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com or http://www3.ca.com/v.../virusscan.aspx.

Then, open hijackthis, click Scan, then put a check next to the following entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wininetd] C:\WINNT\System32\wininetd.exe

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.r...ip/RdxIE601.cab
O16 - DPF: {28F00B0F-DC4E-11D3-ABEC-005004A44EEB} (Register Class) - http://content.hiwir...5.26/Hiwire.cab
O16 - DPF: {640B39C1-D713-464F-92C3-75BD972B95EE} - http://www.sidestep....00719/sb028.cab
O16 - DPF: {6B4788E2-BAE8-11D2-A1B4-00400512739B} (PWMediaSendControl Class) - http://216.249.25.15...tiveXImgCtl.CAB

Now, Close all open Windows and browsers (have only HJT open) and click "Fix Checked".

Then, reboot to Safe Mode (tap F8 while restarting) and delete this file:
(if still there)

C:\WINNT\System32\wininetd.exe

You may have to show hidden files
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Then, Reboot normally, and please post a new HJT log, and let us know how you made out.

HI katladd,

You're welcome. Your log look good!

I would see if AOL Instant Messenger can be remove from your Control Panel.
Click Start/ Settings/Control Panel/Then double click on Add/Remove Programs,
Then Remove AOL Instant Messenger.

Then reboot and you can then fix any entries that may be in HJT.

Here is some free protection you should consider:
Download and install:

SpywareBlaster will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies.

IESPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Check for updates occasionally.

And also see So how did I get infected in the first place?
