Posted 14 July 2004 - 11:10 AM

It all started when I began to receive e-mail returned to me that I had never sent in the first place. I then installed Norton Antivirus 2004 and downloaded Hijack This from your site as reccommended by friends. I just want to make sure that I delete the proper entries and keep the safe ones, and since i am computer illiterate I will stick to the guidance and advice of your team of experts. Thank you so very much for any help you can offer me. Here is the log:

Should I just check whatever you have told others to check that have similar log entries and delete them? I am really worried about my pc still sending info to others that might be harmful .. Please tell me what to do.

Not yet.. but patiently waiting for any advice. I have been deleting a whole bunch of stuff on my own, not knowing if I am doing the right thing or not. But Since i started having this problem I contacted all my friends and asked them not to e-mail me or open any e-mails from me.. so i am incomunicated and desperate to find out if the problem is solved or if it is still there.

I installed a firewall and this program: cjxlorhj.exe keeps trying to access the internet.. never heard of it and cant find anything about it on the web. So maybe that is the problem and I still have it.

Sigh.. I truly hope that I get an answer soon. Thank you for your concern :)

Please let me know if log is ok, so I can re-establish communication with the outside world. My e-mail is locked atm, since I cant take the chance of infecting someone else's pc. Just a quick look to let me know what is the thing that is causing the problem, or if it is gone now. Thank you!!!

First, uninstall P2P Networking through Add/Remove Programs. If/when asked whether you also want to remove Altnet components, say 'Yes'.

P2P Networking is a totally useless Kazaa add-on, and it's been reported to be responsible for serious system slowdowns.

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O1 - Hosts: comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

O2 - BHO: OpenSite.CBrowserHelper - {30A56549-9D5B-4D34-AFA7-440A7F0538A9} - C:\Program Files\Open Site\opnste.dll

Reboot and delete

files

c:\windows\no-credit-card.exe
C:\install.cab

folders
C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking
C:\Program Files\Open Site

Please post a followup Hijack this log, and say if your problems persist.

Thank you sooo very much for your advice Dave!!!! I followed your advice to fix the pc. :D

The P2P uninstall didnt ask me for any Altnet components (maybe bacause i uninstalled kazaa before. The open site folder gave me some trouble to delete, but I restarted the pc in safe mode and finally got rid of it.

I ran HJT again after doing what you told me and the open site line was again there.. deleted it again, ran HJT again and this log came up:

Looks pretty good to me too! However, I wonder about the two "smileys" in theO4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Update Detection] entry.

Did you put those in? If not, then fix that entry, as it may be bogus! Even if it is a legitimate entry, it is not really needed, so fixing it will do no harm.
Be wary of strong drink. It may make you shoot at tax collectors, and miss!
