My norton is detecting the w32.spybot virus as having infected the scvhost.exe file in "windows\system32" folder but fails to delete the virus.

Symantic web site has instructions on removing, however it involves deleting the file. I'm not sure how important this file is to the operating system, or how to replace it.

Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Let's have a closer look:

Go to http://computercops....ads-cat-14.html , and download Hijack This.

Unzip to a folder other than your Desktop or the Temp folder, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please show us its contents.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.
