You have a hijack which can be removed using CWShredder but will be reinstalled by a hidden file. So first we have to find the hidden file and remove it.

Copy the contents of the quote box to Notepad.
Name the file Appinit.bat
Save as type All Files
Save on the Desktop.

Reg save "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows" windows1.hiv
ren windows1.hiv windows.txt

Double click on Appinit.bat
This will create a file on the desktop named windows.txt

Double click on the windows.txt file to open and copy and paste the entire contents into a reply to this post. The text will look funny but that is ok.

OK.

- Right-click the Start button, and choose 'Explore'.
- Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
- Select the View Tab.
- Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
- UNcheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
- UNcheck "Hide file extensions for known file types"
- Click Yes to confirm.
- Click OK.

Now navigate to:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\notepad.exe <--file and right click it.
Choose copy from the menu.
Now go back one folder to:
C:\WINDOWS\system32 <-- folder and click on an empty spot in the right hand pane. Then right click there and select paste from the menu.

Now go back another folder to:
C:\WINDOWS <-- folder and do the paste thing again.
(click on an empty spot in the right hand pane. Then right click there and select paste from the menu.)

Close Explorer.

Go to start > run > type notepad enter.

Sorry,

It appears the notepad.exe file is in a completely different folder- "WINNT" which is not a subfolder of Windows on my computer. Does this matter?

Please follow these steps:

Step 1:
Go to Folder Options> View

Scroll to the bottom of the list to find the box labeled:
Use Simple File Sharing(Recommended)
Remove the check from that box and press ok.

Step 2:

Download CWShredder from this link:
http://www.spywarein.../CWShredder.exe

Save that file somewhere as we will use it later.

Step 3:

Download this file and then immediately sign off the
internet and stay off until all steps are finished.

The file to download is here:

http://computercops....ownload&id=1183

Extract the batch file (hiving.bat) and run it. If you have script blocking enabled you will get a warning. Please allow this to run. The script is just producing a message box.

After a reboot the super hidden nasty file will no longer be loaded and will be visible. This will end the constant reinstall of about:Blank.

Step 4:

Restart the Computer.

Find this file:
c:\windows\system32\sql.dll
Right click on it.
Use the security tab on sql.dll and take ownership.
Change the 'everyone special' to
'you> with Admin rights-> FULL control
Then try to delete it, if that fails try to rename
it first to different name+ext.

Example:
sql.dll>bleh.txt
bleh.txt > badfile.111

Please zip that file and store it somewhere as I would like you to email it to me.

Now delete the original file.

Step 5:

Extract and Run CWShredder immediately.
Press the fix button to clean.

Restart and run hijackThis again.
Post your new log here in your next reply.

Also please create a new Windows.txt and email it to me so I can check it

Go to Tools>Folder Options> View

Scroll to the bottom of the list to find the box labeled:
Use Simple File Sharing(Recommended)< it has to be there, its the last one.
Remove the check from that box and press ok.

and proceed to step 2

By the way, i found the sql.dll file in c:\WINNT\system32\sql.dll.

Right clicking on it, I did not see an option to change the security settings. Therefore, I have not tried to delete or rename it yet.

Lets repeat all the steps
1. Copy the contents of the quote box to Notepad.
Name the file Appinit.bat
Save as type All Files
Save on the Desktop.

Reg save "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows" windows1.hiv
ren windows1.hiv windows.txt

Double click on Appinit.bat
This will create a file on the desktop named windows.txt

Double click on the windows.txt file to open and copy and paste the entire contents into a reply to this post. The text will look funny but that is ok.

Move hijack this to its own folder like C:\HijackThis, then run hijack this, close all windows and browsers and fix the following items:

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?

Delete the file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ajadba.dll

and Run CWShredder immediately.
Press the fix button to clean.

reboot and post a new log

Good job! Your log looks clean now.
You have RealPlayer running at Startup and this is not necessary. You can fix this with HJT, but you will also need to set it not to load in RealPlayer itself to keep it from resetting itself. This is the item to fix in HJT:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\ProgramFiles\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" osboot

You have PowerReg Scheduler in your log. This is a registration reminder that is used by a number of different companies. It is not needed and some people think that it reports back to the company about your computer, so I suggest fixing it
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Good luck :D :D
