I am getting lots of pop-ups each time I use IE. Clicking the x scores of times until all of the pop ups are gone. Which is good for that page, but they return as soon as I click on another page. Help, please.

Hello jean , welcome to SWI
Print out these instructions so you can read them while you clean your system.

Now close all open windows AND browsers and check these items for HJT to fix

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GNXEL] C:\WINDOWS\GNXEL.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TALSZGN] C:\WINDOWS\TALSZGN.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OVGBIDFT] C:\WINDOWS\OVGBIDFT.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ZWL] C:\WINDOWS\ZWL.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [FTL] C:\WINDOWS\FTL.exe

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?

Delete the files

C:\WINDOWS\GNXEL.exe
C:\WINDOWS\TALSZGN.exe
C:\WINDOWS\OVGBIDFT.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ZWL.exe
C:\WINDOWS\FTL.exe

You may need to show hidden files to delete them.How to show all hidden and system files

Also delete the DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory)
* C:\Windows\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <=This will delete all your cached internet content including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested.
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
* Empty your "Recycle Bin".

Now disable System Restore, This can be done by following the Instructions for Your OS here.

restart, enable system restore and post a fresh log to give you further recommendations.

MMXX66,

Thank you so much. I am including the last HJT log. Again, thanks those popups were driving me crazy.

We´re almost done.
Close alle windows and browsers and have hijack this to fix the following item:
O4 - Global Startup: updater.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Keenware\wupdater.exe

This item is considered to be resource hog that is not needed and it may be worthwhile to fix it with HJT. You will still be able to start it manually if you it them
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

Then restart in safe mode and delete the folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Keenware

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Good luck.

Uh, I'm back...

Should this be a new thread?

I have been using firefox, instead of my corrupt ie. Now, i can not access www.spywareinfo.com with either firefox or ie. the browsers go to this site that says under construction. I have to click on the link in an email that swi sent me earlier to reach this site.
More info and new HJT to come if this is the right place.
