I have a cable connection and I am having problems with pop ups after closing IE. I am currently using AdAware6, SpyBot and CheckIt86 pop up blocker that is provided by my ISP. None of these have solved the problem, so I downloaded and installed HijackThis and updated it to current version. I ran and saved the log. I see some things that look suspicious but think this is something left to more knowledgeable people. I came to this site as a recommendation. I think it is great that this most valuable service is being provided, and commend the volunters. Here is my HiJack This log:

Hello Knale , welcome to SWI

Print out these instructions so you can read them while you clean your system.

Now close all open windows AND browsers and check these items for HJT to fix

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank

O2 - BHO: NavErrRedir Class - {5D60FF48-95BE-4956-B4C6-6BB168A70310} - C:\PROGRA~1\INCRED~1\BHO\INCFIN~1.DLL (file missing)
O2 - BHO: ICOO Loader BHO - {B9D90B27-AD4A-413a-88CB-3E6DDC10DC2D} - C:\WINDOWS\msopt.dll

Delete the files
C:\WINDOWS\System32\bdick.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\psp1resx.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\pvvoxd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\msopt.dll

You may need to show hidden files to delete them.How to show all hidden and system files

Also delete the DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory)
* C:\Windows\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <=This will delete all your cached internet content including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested.
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
* Empty your "Recycle Bin".

Now disable System Restore, This can be done by following the Instructions for Your OS here.

Now close all open windows AND browsers and check these items for HJT to fix:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [inntbbuw] C:\WINDOWS\System32\inntbbuw.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ousem] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ousem.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [yncuis] C:\WINDOWS\System32\yncuis.exe

With out restarting right click in the task bar go to task manager , in processes look for these processes and stop them:
inntbbuw.exe
ousem.exe
yncuis.exe

Now delete these files:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ inntbbuw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ousem.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\yncuis.exe

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:
Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Reboot to normal mode, scan again with Hijack This and post a new log here.

Finally, do an online scanHERE. Let it remove any infected files found.

Good job! they´re finally gone.
One last step.
Remove this entry:
O18 - Protocol: icoo - {4A8DADD4-5A25-4D41-8599-CB7458766220} - C:\WINDOWS\msopt.dll

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Good luck :D
