      IE 11 copy/paste problem

      It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

No joy with spybot, adaware, CWS shredder - help!

9 posts in this topic

Hi guys,

I'd be very grateful if anyone could help me out...I'm not that tech-savvy, so I'm afraid you'll have to speak slowly. A short time (seems to be random, sometimes 5 mins sometimes 30) after I open my browser, a new window opens with the address http://69.9.164.20/?id=ts-uk-exit (it's a porn gallery).

I've downloaded and run adaware, spybot and CWS shredder, but it keeps coming back like a bad dream.

Here's my HT logfile (I think - let me know if it's not the right thing)

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Hello Caleyali ,Welcome to SWI.

Print out these instructions so you can read them while you clean your system.

Move Hijack This to its own folder.Click My Computer, then C:\

In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.

That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder. Move hijack this there. Hijack this makes backups of everything you fix, these backups are saved in the same folder the program is.

Now close all open windows AND browsers and check these items for HJT to fix:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...rch/search.html

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...://my.yahoo.com

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...rch/search.html

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...://my.yahoo.com

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [system Update2] c:\docume~1\alista~1\applic~1\winspool.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [system Update4] c:\docume~1\alista~1\applic~1\services.exe

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?

Delete these files:

c:\documents and settings\alista~1\application data\winspool.exe

c:\documents and settings\alista~1\application data\services.exe

You may need to show hidden files to delete them.How to show all hidden and system files

The following DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory) need to be deleted while in safe mode.

* C:\Windows\Temp\

* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <=This will delete all your cached internet

content including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested.

* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\

* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\

* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\

* Empty your "Recycle Bin".

Then disable your system restore

1 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

2 Click the System Restore tab.

3 Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.

4 Click Apply

5 this will delete all existing restore points. Click Yes to do this.

6 Click OK.

Reboot into normal mode enable System Restore and post a fresh log in this thread to give you further recommendations.

Hi guys,

OK - I've done all as advised by mmx above. Here's the new log file - I hope someone can tell me if everything is sorted. No sign of the annoying pop-up so far, but like I say it seems to arrive at pretty random times. Big thanx to anyone who can help.

Cheers

C

Sorry mmxx,

I followed your original instructions before you edited your post, so I've already deleted the adiras.exe files. File search for adiras returns nothing

Here's my new HTJ results - thank you so much for this, by the way.

Your log looks clean now.

Good job! :D

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

To protect yourself further:

  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Good luck
