      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.

Rundll and Explorer Error and popups

8 posts in this topic

Hi there. I seem to have a trojan on my system. Every time I start up I get a rundll error. If I close the error window I get an explorer error. At the same time every time I run Spybot it comes up with the same problems which it apparently fixes only for them to re-appear when I next start up. I have Norton AV but it seems to find nothing. I have also run CWShredder but it reports no problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Log file follows:

C:\WINDOWS\BXXS5.DLL <-- File only

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\A.EXE <-- File only

C:\PROGRA~1\INCRED~1\BHO\INCFIN~1.DLL <-- Folder and all files.

C:\PROGRA~1\POWERS~1\TOOLBAR\PWRSBIKD.DLL <-- Folder and all files

*

Reboot in normal mode.

Let's see if anything has been left behind.

Download Spybot Version 1.3 from: http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download

1. Install Spybot S&D Version 1.3, accepting the Default Settings

QUOTE

Note: When doing the installation do not "tick" TeaTimer yet. We'll turn that on after we're done. You'll see what I mean during the installation process. It's a small resident program

part of Spybot and works as a prevention for registry changes and some other things.

But if it's running while we're doing fixes it'll pop up warnings about what we want to do

during any manual fixes.

2. Go to Start > Programs >Spybot - Search & Destroy and choose 'Spybot S&D - easy mode'

3. Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D

4. Click the button to 'Search for Updates' and download and install the Updates.

5. Next click the button 'Check for Problems'

6. When Spybot is complete, it will be showing 'RED'

entries 'BLACK' entries and 'GREEN' entries in the window

7. Put a check mark beside the RED entries ONLY.

8. Choose 'Fix Selected Problems' and allow Spybot to fix the RED entries.

9. REBOOT

Run Hijackthis submit a fresh log and let me know how things are.

You are not presently running the latest copy of Internet Explorer (The SP 1 version).

I suggest you get it from this site: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and follow the intructions for the download. When installed return to the site and install all of the latest security patches that will protect your computer.

Internet Explorer SP1. and all updates to February 2004 are included in this free CD from Micorsoft. If you have a slow connection or are not pressed for time you can order it and

install later. You must use the update site for any updates issued after that date.

How to obtain and use the Windows Security Update free CD (February 2004)

Here are some suggestions to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future. I strongly recommend installing the following :

  • SpywareBlaster - It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • SpywareGuard - It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE-Spyad - IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

I also recommend reading this article.

How did I get infected in the first place?
