I have a remote user that got infected. Via PC Anywhere I ran spybot which remove a lot of stuff and then ran ad-aware and remove a few more things. I noticed some kind of strange search bar so I ran CWShreader and the search bar is gone. He is still getting popups and his pc is slow. I ran Hijack this and here are the results. I wish I knew more about this stuff

You have the Peper trojan, which requires special treatment to put it out of your misery!
Please download and run this uninstaller.

Click on the peperfix link, and download the program. Then go off line, and run the program. It will remove the files, leaving one orphaned entry to be cleaned up with Hijack this.

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SearchBar.htm
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: Band Class - {C5183ABC-EB6E-4E05-B8C9-500A16B6CF94} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\SEP\SEP.DLL

O3 - Toolbar: Band Class - {C5183ABC-EB6E-4E05-B8C9-500A16B6CF94} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\SEP\SEP.DLL

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Obwu.exe] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\OBWU.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Bakra] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IEHost.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dsi] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DP-HIM.EXE

Reboot and delete

files
All files in the C:\WINDOWS\TEMP folder
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Pwbm74i.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IEHost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DP-HIM.EXE

These may be hidden files. See HERE for how to show hidden files.

Please post a followup Hijack this log, and say if your problems persist.

Ran the peper unistaller, removed the items from the reg through hijackthis and also removed the suggested items from win\sys. Just spoke to the user and he is not having any problems with pop-ups or his home page but does report his pc still seems to slow down to the point where he has to re-boot. Doesn't look like I missed anything but I poked around in the reg I did see a new entry in hklm run that was not there yesterday(Hcj2s6.exe)..

Here is the hj logs.

Look as if the peper fix worked, but the O4 entry didn't fix.

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

O2 - BHO: Band Class - {C5183ABC-EB6E-4E05-B8C9-500A16B6CF94} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\SEP\SEP.DLL

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [58Z6XQ324#7HF#] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Hcj2s6.exe

Reboot and delete

files
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Hcj2s6.exe

folders
C:\PROGRAM FILES\SEP

If the O4 is still in the log after this, repeat the process, in safe mode. When fixing in safe mode, do not reboot before deleteing the files

Please post a followup Hijack this log, and say if your problems persist.
