Hi There

I was infected by hotxxx (I think using ssrv.exe), which I now think is gone, but antivir keeps findining files like C:\WINNT\TEMP\QEF867.TMP, which it describes as a trojan. One other silly question: how can I be sure a dialer has not connected me to a premium number? That is, can they hijack an existing dial-up connection and change the number without it being visibale in the properties section?

Here's my hijack this file.

Thanks for your help!

Paul

Right, follwed all the steps. Here is what was found:

Trojan Hunter: Adware.callinghome, trojandownloader.troll.101

Trendmicro found: Troll.B, Agent.AE, VB.JA

SpyBot found: vx2/f, DSO Exploit, Teen Sex

Ad-aware: found nothing

The new hijack this after re-booting is pasted below.

Thanks very much for your help!

  • Please create a new directory C:\HJT and move the HijackThis.exe file into that directory and only run it from there. That way we can ensure that we have the backup files available in the event that they are needed.
  • Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and then place a check mark in the following boxes, And click on "Fix Checked":
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windriv] C:\WINNT\system32\windriv.exe <= I am not 100% certain of this as I can only find a vague referrence to audio spectrum sound cards - If you have that card, leave this entry and do not delete the corresponding file that I have listed below.
  • The following are optional to delete as they are resource hogs:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
  • Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?
  • The following FILES, DIRECTORIES and DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory) need to be deleted while in safe mode. Make sure your settings allow you to view "Hidden files". Open up any explorer windows and click on "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" and be sure to check off "Show Hidden Files and Folders". If the files etc listed are not present - Do not worry, just delete those that you can find. If no path is listed, you may need to search for the file(s) - To search, click on "Start" => "Search" => "For Files and Folders" => "All Files and Folders" and type in the file name. You can delete it right from the search results window.
    • DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory)
      • C:\Windows\Temp\
      • C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <=This will delete all your cached internet content including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested.
      • C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
      • C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
      • C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
      • Empty your "Recycle Bin"
    • DIRECTORIES
      • Nothing Yet
    • FILES
      • C:\WINNT\system32\windriv.exe
  • Please go to Microsoft Windows Update and download all critical updates for your system. This is imperative. Pay special attention to the latest Service packs for both Windows 2000 and Internet Explorer.
  • Reboot again and log in normally, repost a new HijackThis log into this message for further review.

Followed most of the steps. Just a couple of stupid questions. There was no C:\windows folder, but I presumed it was the C:\WINNT folder? Also, when I went to delete the temporary internet files, I got a message saying that a folder named content.IE5 was a system folder and I shouldn't delete it. So I didn't delete it to be on the safe side. was this correct?

Anyhow, did as much as I could, but still AntiVir is finding these files that it says asre associated with TR/Dldr.small.gl.

Here's the latest hijack this for your expert perusal!

You did not update eveything? Windows 2000 should be at SP4 and IR at 6.0 SP1. Please go to Windows update and download ALL critical updates for your system or you will get reinfected in very short time. After those updates are done, post back another log. The ie content can be deleted no problem.
