      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

CWS.smartsearch.2

8 posts in this topic

Recently ran CWShredder. CWS.smartsearch.2 tried to stop CWShredder, but it seemed to work. HJT log done right after CWShredder and then again after re-boot. Thanks in advance for the help. Here is the latest HJT log:

Do you experience any redirection problems still?

Your log is fairly clean, except for these three:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

Fix them by closing all browser windows, in HJT placing a checkmark before the above items and clicking the Fix-button.

Is your internet connection working properly? I ask this because of the O10 entry.

Wiskonst,

Thanks for your help. I never really had any redirect problems. I just ran CWShredder and it found CWS.smartsearch.2. The 010 entry gave me concern, but I have not had any internet access problems. My desktop goes blank and resets on occsasion, and I have recently been losing my active desktop. I have also had some problems rebooting. When restarting the computer, it will sometimes have a problem and then automatically ask me if I want to start in safe mode. Anyway, here is the latest HJT log:

The O10 entry can be fixed with WinsockXPfix.

Run the program from a permanent folder and click Reg-Backup.

Click OK in the Welcome screen, on the following panel only check 'System registry' and click OK. Click OK to the question concerning the folder.

Part of the registry will be backed up.

In WinsockXPfix click the Fix button on the left.

After a while you will be asked to reboot. Click OK.

Check the internet connection.

If any problems with the connection, run the ERDNT.EXE program from the C:\ERDNT folder. The backup will then be restored.

If the detection by CWShredder of Smartsearch.2 only consists of the message 'CWS.Smartsearch detected. Starting with random string ...' at startup, it is probably nothing. CWShredder sometimes also gives this message when other programs interfere with it. There are no traces of CWS.Smartsearch in your log.

The startup problems seem more of a Windows installation problem to me than resulting from a virus. You might ask in a specialized forum, f.i. PC Media Tech Forums or Spywareinfo PC Troubleshooting.

Again, many thanks for your help.

CWShredder did a couple of things. When I ran CWShredder, it indicated that Smartsearch had attempted to block the loading of CWShredder. (Or something like that) After clicking "Fix", CWShredder indicated it had removed CWS.Smartsearch.2.

I will try to fix the 010 entry.

Thank you for reviewing my HJT logs.
