Hi Can anybody help me please.

I an unable to remove the Hotxxx NastySex Dialler from a friends PC.

I have run Adaware, spybot, CWShredder and removed all the nasties(So I think) with HJT

But every time he goes back on the Internet it comes back, so I must be missing something as when I run HJT after it comes back some of the entries return.

Please find below a copy of the HJT log as it is at the moment with the dialler active

Hello tommyf ,Welcome to SWI.
Print out these instructions so you can read them while you clean your system.

Move Hijack This to its own folder.Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder. Move hijack this there. Hijack this makes backups of everything you fix, these backups are saved in the same folder the program is.

Now close all open windows AND browsers and check these items for HJT to fix:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QTSvc] C:\WINDOWS\ssvr.exe /i

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?

Delete these files:
C:\WINDOWS\ssvr.exe

You may need to show hidden files to delete it.How to show all hidden and system files

The following DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory) need to be deleted while in safe mode.
* C:\Windows\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <=This will delete all your cached internet
content including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested.
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
* Empty your "Recycle Bin".

Then disable your system restore

1 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2 Click the System Restore tab.
3 Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
4 Click Apply
5 this will delete all existing restore points. Click Yes to do this.
6 Click OK.

Reboot into normal mode enable System Restore and post a fresh log in this thread to give you further recommendations.

Hi mmxx66

Thanks for the welcome and for the help.

Please find the new HJT log.

I have also removed the following line as this was one I had removed before but it came back when the dialler reappeared

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.pureseeker.com

Can you tell me what ssvr.exe is please. I had followed the tutorial on HJT that I found on this site and did not remove ssvr as i could not find any reference to it on the net so I did not like to remove it.

Is it the running file for the dialler?

The ssvr.exe file I think is the dialerxxx but is up to you if you wanna remove it or not. it is not a system process.
If the dialer cames back you know what to do.
Now close all open windows AND browsers and check these items for HJT to fix:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,(Default) = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,(Default) = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank

I strongly recommend you to uninstall The Teknum System software that you´re using, Is it handybits? check this link.
http://www.wildersse...hp/t-13100.html

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Good luck :D
