I need help......I have read the FAQ...run updated versions of ad-aware, spybot, and CWshredder...none will help.....My internet browser has been taken over....home page, search engine, and "only the beast" pop-ups......every time I clean and reboot then connect to the internet, I get a message microsoft is configuring and installing XP for small businesses and the problem is back. Each time I connect there is a new "run once" exe file on my hijackthis log. Please help !! Here is my current hijackthis log.......

Make sure your settings allow you to view "Hidden files". Open up any explorer window and click on "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" and be sure to check off "Show Hidden Files and Folders".

Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete once => Click Task Manager => Click the Processes tab => Click the Image Name column header to alphabetically sort the processes => Scroll through the list and look for "javaiw.exe" & "syshm32.exe". Find the files, click on them, and then click End Process => Exit the Task Manager.

Next, go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit OK.

Scroll down and find the service called "Network Security Service". (It may be called WORKSTATION NETLOGON SERVICE instead)

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then OK and close any open windows.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and then place a check mark in the following boxes, And click on "Fix Checked":

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\atriy.dll/sp.html#96676
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://atriy.dll/index.html#96676

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [ipri32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\ipri32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [apphq32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\apphq32.exe

Reboot into Safe Mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?, and delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\atriy.dll

C:\WINDOWS\sysfd.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\syshm32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaiw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkaa.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ipri32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\apphq32.exe

Reboot in Normal Mode.
Download the file cwsuninst.txt and rename it to cwsuninst.reg

Doubleclick it and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Download the latest version of Hijackthis from http://www.downloads.../hijackthis.zip and post a new log.

Download this tool called AboutBuster http://www.downloads...AboutBuster.zip

Unzip it to your desktop but don't run it yet.

*****************************************************************

Download Ad-aware from: http://www.lavasoft.de/res/aaw6.exe

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Next, we need to configure Ad-aware for a full scan.

Posted Image Click on the Gear icon (second from the left) to access the preferences/settings window

1. In the General window make sure the following are selected:
  • Automatically save log-file
  • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
  • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
2. Click on the Scanning button on the left and select :
  • Scan Within Archives
  • Scan Active Processes
  • Scan Registry
  • Deep Scan Registry
  • Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
  • Scan my Hosts file
  • Under Click here to select drives + folders, choose:
  • All of your hard drives
Posted Image Click on the Advanced button on the left and select:
  • Include additional process information
  • Include additional file information
  • Include environment information
  • Include additional object details
Posted Image Click the Tweak button and select:
  • Under the Scanning Engine:
    • Unload recognized processes during scanning
    • Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
    • Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
  • Under the Cleaning Engine:
    • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
Posted Image Click on Proceed to save the settings. Exit Ad-Aware.

*****************************************************************

Print out these instructions so you have them handy as most of the steps need to be done in safe mode and you may not be able to go online.

Make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders". Click "Apply" then "OK"

Next, go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit OK.

Scroll down and find the service called "Network Security Service". When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows.

Reboot to Safe Mode How to start the computer in Safe mode

Scan with Hijack This and put checks next to all the following, then click "Fix Checked"

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\ieeiz.dll/sp.html#96676

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://ieeiz.dll/index.html#96676

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://ieeiz.dll/index.html#96676

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {24FA19B2-738C-4320-0FD3-4E436FB09655} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\syscs32.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [syshm32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\syshm32.exe

and delete the following files if present:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ieeiz.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaiw.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\syscs32.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\syshm32.exe

Run AboutBuster.exe that you downloaded earlier. Click OK, click Start, then click OK. This will scan your computer for the bad files and delete them. Save the report (copy and paste into notepad or wordpad and save as a .txt file). Repeat this step a couple of times, saving all the logs.

Run Ad-Aware:

Posted ImageAt the first screen click Start and on the next screen choose Activate in-depth Scan at the bottom of the page and then choose:
  • Use Custom Scanning Options
Posted Image Click Next and Ad-aware will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected.

Posted Image Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish

Posted Image When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next).

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Reboot to normal mode, scan again with Hijack This and post a new log here.

It's clean but there is more you can do. You can have Hijackthis fix these two, they aren't necessary but they do use up resources:

O4 - Startup: PowerReg SchedulerV2.exe

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

You need to get yourself to Windows Update and download and install all critical updates and service packs.

Also you should update your version of Acrobat Reader to the latest.

You should also read http://www.spywarein...ked/prevent.php It should help you to prevent any hijacking in future.

Good luck :D

Should I recheck my " Hide protected operating systems files"? This is just a setting that affects what files are shown when you are looking at a folder, it doens't change the fact that those files are protected. Normally system files will be hidden, it's up to you if you want to hide them or show them. :)
