Well, for the past couple of weeks i've been having a fairly uncommon but recurring problem with AOL/Dell company popups when I open my browser, usually, though not always. Also, occasionally one will just come up out of the blue, when the browser's open. It's never anything malicious, and isnt porn or anything (my buddy says AOL and dell would pay better than porn companies for advertising...heh!). Probably dosen't matter.

If anyone would care to be of assistance, I've placed a hijackthis log below (did a scan, then got a popup, so i scanned again and saved that log instead, not sure if that would help or not)

Doing reformats for this crap gets old, and I'd like to continue to allow friends to use my computer. I've only once stumbled onto adware on my own...had friends get everything from 100 porn popus in a day to the loveletter virus on my comp. Maybe i should just keep it away from them heh...

If anyone cares to help, thanks for the consideration in advance.

[EDIT: The only things that I am seeing suspicious are the %Radio Toolbar item..dont remember installing that - and the Fileplanet Download manager, which i figure shouldn't be on if im not on fileplanet. then again, i dont know much about either ;) ]

The C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdxm.ocx entry is valid. It's the radio toolbar, an integral part of IE.

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {18896E2F-B931-2E93-8720-66557BA72F6C} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\rinft.dll

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Qlchy] C:\WINDOWS\System32\mvrugadf.exe

Reboot and delete

files
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mvrugadf.exe

This may be a hidden file. See HERE for how to show hidden files.

Please post a followup Hijack this log, and say if your problems persist.

Seems to have fixed the problem. I havent had a chance to do a lot of browsing, and sometimes there was a fairly long delay between popups, but I haven't been able to get one to show up yet, so I'd call it done. Thanks for your help!

[EDIT: While I'm thinking about it, do you have any information on those two particular files, or what malware they're related to?]
