      IE 11 copy/paste problem

      It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

      PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

      We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.

Download CWShredder install, run and click fix.

Create a new folder called C:\HijackThis, move the HijackThis.exe file into the new folder and run it from there. This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong.

Now close all open windows AND browsers and check these items for HJT to fix(a fair amount of these are likely to be gone because of CWShredder):

3 Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.

4 Click Apply

5 this will delete all existing restore points. Click Yes to do this.

6 Click OK.

Finally, do an online scan HERE. Let it remove any infected files found.

I did everything (except I couldn't run the virus scancheck while in safe mode). When I ran Hijack THis again, the solongas.com came up again (on the top). I Fixed that file, but didn't touch any of the others. WHen I opened up my internet - it still puts me onto that solangas.com or a related website.

thanks

I don't know what happened, but I started getting things added to my "favorites" and as I deleted them pop ups started coming up and Zone alarm blocked a Trojan. I even think I was hijacked to a new site - superspider.com. I am sending a new list checked by hijackthis. Is there a hole in my protection? I have downloaded zonealarm, Norton, Hijack This, Spybot, BHODemon, Adaware, CWShedder. My friend recommended Bazooka, but that one was a little harder to understand. I tried to make sure my Microsoft patches were up to date, but the hijacker kicks me out and back to their website (which is blank). The reason I got infected is this is a new computer and I didn't have any of the patches and wasn't running zonealarm originally. I just started using the internet on this computer on Sunday. Anything else I Need.

thanks

Run CWShredder and click fix.

Print out these instructions so you can read them while you clean your system.

Move Hijack This to its own folder.Click My Computer, then C:\

In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.

That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder. Move hijack this there. Hijack this makes backups of everything you fix, these backups are saved in the same folder the program is.

Now close all open windows AND browsers and check these items for HJT to fix(a fair amount of these are likely to be gone because of WShredder):

I just got this computer about a week ago, and there is nothing on it that isn't backed up on my main desktop. I was thinking of just erasing my hard drive and loading everything back up.

Do you recommend this, and will that get rid of the viruses/hijacker, etc... If so, what do you recommend i do about "protection"afterwards. I think my main problem is that I didn't download the microsoft patches (25) or zone alarm until 2 days ago and i was already infected within days.

thanks

I think we have a different kind of infection here, Try to find this file sflrdmnls3.tlb , zip it and email it to me here

If you´re going to format and reinstall , You need to install A good anti virus, all the patches and critical updates as soon as posible. You already have that clear.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

To protect yourself further:

  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice

So how did I get infected in the first place?

I found the file. A couple of problems, I can't get onto my email - yahoo. I don't know if it will send it to you if I just click on "here" from the message - which puts me into Outlook. I will send something to you and just reply here so I know you got it.

Also, I am somewhat of a computer novice - as you can probably tell - just want to double check that I zipped it correctly, so I don't send you something bad. What i did was right clicked on the file and copied it as a Compressed (Zipped) File. Also, how do I send it as an enclosure, it doesn't save it on my desktop.

You zipped it right.

Try attaching it in your next reply. Don´t fast reply, instead, press ADD REPLY button.

Hello,

if you are still thinking of reformatting your PC, once you do it - install firewall and anti virus right away. Don't even log online without firewall.

I would recommend AVG - it's free and i think as good as Norton, for instance. You can probably find many good reviews on this forum.

Here is the link.

AVG Antivirus

Good luck

after format and reinstall my hard drive - how should I go about setting everything up. From what it sounds like I need to get some security from the internet, but getting onto the internet makes me vulnerable. Should I purchase Zone Alarm, and other programs and instead of downloading them request a cd version be sent to me? One of my problems was I needed to download 25 patches from Microsoft to put myself up to date and I'm sure I was very vulnerable when on the internet.

I have to wait a few days anyways b/c I need a systems disk to be sent to me from Toshiba.

thanks

Hello,

if you've already downloaded few things, can you burn them on a CD? I don't think you need to purchase Zone Alarm, unless you want additional features. If you don't like Zone Alarm for some reason, you can get free personal

Kerio Firewall

Also get Spywareblaster. It will prevent a lot of things from installing on your machine. In addition to that you can get SpywareGuard.

And of cource keep Spybot S & D and Ad Aware updated. Fire Fox Browser is less prone to getting hit by spyware and other stuff.

Try to get everything before you reformat and back it up on a CD.

I sent those files. i didn't delete anything. I didn't even download the new files from microsoft.

One question, I have been sending the messages through my yahoo account, but deleting the "sent mail". Is there any chance of re-infecting myself after I reformat the hard-drive by checking my email. Anything else I should do besides deleting the "sent mail". come to think of it I am going to start a new yahoo account for the emails/enclosures I am sending you guys - or do you have any other recommendations.

thanks

Do not worry about that, the files had to be installed in the proper folders to be harmful again

Print out these instructions so you can read them while you clean your system.

How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= Please check this link for instructions on how to download, install and then use adaware. Don´t use it yet.

You already have Adaware installed. Make sure it's up to date. Just open Adaware and click on *Check for Updates Now* and then *Connect*. It will find a new reference-file. Click *ok* and let it download and install the updates by clicking on *Finish* .This will return you to the main screen. You should now see Reference File # : 01R333 18.07.2004 or higher listed.

Now close all open windows AND browsers and check these items for HJT to fix:

Delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\matrixhere.exe

C:\WINDOWS\System32\szsz478jokt9h.dll

Find (f3) and delete this file:

image.dll

You may need to show hidden files to delete them.How to show all hidden and system files

Scan with Adaware and let it remove any bad files found.

The following DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory) need to be deleted while in safe mode.

* C:\Windows\Temp\

* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <=This will delete all your cached internet

content including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested.

* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\

* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\

* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\

* Empty your "Recycle Bin".

Then disable your system restore

1 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

2 Click the System Restore tab.

3 Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.

4 Click Apply

5 this will delete all existing restore points. Click Yes to do this.

6 Click OK.

Finally, do an online scan HERE. Let it remove any infected files found.

Reboot into normal mode enable System Restore and post a fresh log in this thread to give you further recommendations.

Sorry for the delay, I was out of town this weekend

I could NOT find C:\windows\system32\szsz478jokt9h.dll or image.dll after deleting C:\windows/system32/matrixhere.exe. I searched the computer with the "find" function. I also couldn't run the scan-check with Housecall - because I don't have Netscape??? but last time it let me download and scan.

I also downloaded the microsoft patches after this

Here is my new log.

Do I dare try Internet explorer again? (I am using mozilla now) I actually don't mind being the guinea pig since I'm going to reformat the hard drive as soon as the systems disk comes.

thanks

Good job, you´re almost clean.

close all open windows AND browsers and check these items for HJT to fix:

O15 - Trusted Zone: *.greg-search.com

This item is considered to be resource hog that is not needed and it may be worthwhile to fix it with HJT. You will still be able to start it manually if you need it:

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

Post a new log please, you´re almost there. ;)

Here it goes. I still get the same "5 DSO Enteries" when I run Spybot. Give me the word and I will go through Explorer again.

Good job!

Your log is clean.

Make a search for these files:

C:\WINDOWS\bad3074.exe

C:\WINDOWS\System32\sflrdmnls3.tlb if you find them KILL´EM.

Go ahead with Internet Explorer.

Good luck :D

And thanks for not loosing the faith.

Here it goes. I still get the same "5 DSO Enteries" when I run Spybot. Give me the word and I will go through Explorer again.

Don´t worry about that, it is a Spybot bug. Will be fixed soon.

THANKS

So far everything works. You rock mmxx66. I will be checking for any new posts in case you want me to do anything else. Since there is nothing important on my computer, I am still going to reformat my hard drive and start off fresh - but now with the appropriate security. My disk comes in tomorrow - anything you want me to do or files you want me to check for - just email.

Thanks again - I will be contributing $$$ to the cause.

If you have all the patches and updates and your computer is running smooth, I recommend you to do not reformat, if you do you´ll have to download all the critical updates and patches again.
