Hi,
I have been hijacked. I have the following programs installed and ...:
Internet Explorer – the browser I use;
Ad-aware 6.0 - the one who finds the infected dll-s. Updated on 24.07.04
Avast! - repeates the results of Ad-aware. Also updated.
ZoneAlarm – my firewall;
SpyBot 1.3 – no problems with it and no infected threads found;
CWShredder - do not finds anything anymore.
Notepad - was infected but I changed it with a new one according to the instruction of Merijn.

I read many posting on this issue but I am scared to delete anything myself.

And also: Sorry for my English!

Hi. Please download and install the program Registry Lite from here:

http://www.resplendence.com/reglite

Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under programs portion of the Start Menu.

Once it is opened, copy and paste the below line, into the address field of Registrar Lite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

And press enter. You will now be presented with new information in the bottom right and left sections and on the right section, the name AppInit_DLLs should be highlighted. Double-click on the AppInit_DLLs entry and copy and paste the text found in the value field in your next reply to this post.

Print out these instructions so you can read them while you clean your system.

Now close all open windows AND browsers and check these items for HJT to fix:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\DOCUME~1\tanya\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = file://C:\DOCUME~1\tanya\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CloseDNF] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Utility.exe \1008

If you set these restrictions yourself, using a program like Spybot Search & Destroy or SpywareGuard, leave the following two 06 items; otherwise, FIX them both with HijackThis:
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

O16 - DPF: {1C78AB3F-A857-482E-80C0-3A1E5238A565} -

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?

Delete these files:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Utility.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\jejege.dll
C:\DOCUME~1\tanya\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html

You may need to show hidden files to delete them.How to show all hidden and system files

The following DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory) need to be deleted while in safe mode.
* C:\Windows\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <=This will delete all your cached internet
content including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested.
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
* Empty your "Recycle Bin".

Then disable your system restore

1 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2 Click the System Restore tab.
3 Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
4 Click Apply
5 this will delete all existing restore points. Click Yes to do this.
6 Click OK.

Reboot into normal mode enable System Restore and post a fresh log in this thread to give you further recommendations.

Good Job!

You have RealPlayer running at Startup and this is not necessary. You can fix this with HJT, but you will also need to set it not to load in RealPlayer itself to keep it from resetting itself. This is the item to fix in HJT:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Fichiers communs\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

This item is considered to be resource hog that is not needed and it may be worthwhile to fix it with HJT. You will still be able to start it manually if you need it:
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Good luck :D

We've got this thing (new 6-digit dll and sp.html) again :weep:

I did fix R0, R2 + all the O16 entries (if I need them I always can download them) + the ones of Rel One and OSA.exe.
I did that at my husband’s site and this time I could not delete a file located in C:\Documents and Settings\tanya\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\7L4TSG9O, named topsites.andr[1], created on 24 April 2003. Maybe this morning (do not forget I am in Europe ;) ) my setting were not corect. When I try to delete it the system says that the file can not be found.

And also, several weeks ago, I installed SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard but there were some problems with the second one and also the speed of the computer become impossible :hmmm:
Maybe I should take away Avast! because all of them together with ZoneAlarm are too heavy.
I hope tonight AVAST! will not give an alarm again .

Run Registry lite, once it is opened, copy and paste the below line, into the address field of Registrar Lite.

Hi,
the value of the key is
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msljjl.dll.
This dll does not exist and the one in HijackThis log is different (maybe you do not need precision ).
Now I see that the previous time I did not double click and I gave the value outside which is still (not set). Sorry! :unsure:

Please follow these steps:

Step 1:
Go to Folder Options> View

Scroll to the bottom of the list to find the box labeled:
Use Simple File Sharing(Recommended)
Remove the check from that box and press ok.

Step 2:

Download CWShredder from this link:
http://www.spywarein.../CWShredder.exe

Save that file somewhere as we will use it later.

Step 3:

Download this file and then immediately sign off the
internet and stay off until all steps are finished.

The file to download is here:

http://computercops....ownload&id=1183

Extract the batch file (hiving.bat) and run it. If you have script blocking enabled you will get a warning. Please allow this to run. The script is just producing a message box.

After a reboot the super hidden nasty file will no longer be loaded and will be visible. This will end the constant reinstall of about:Blank.

Step 4:

Restart the Computer.

Find this file:
c:\windows\system32\msljjl.dll

Use the security tab on msljjl.dlland take ownership.
Change the 'everyone special' to
'you> with Admin rights-> FULL control
Then try to delete it, if that fails try to rename
it first to different name+ext.

Example:
msljjl.dll>bleh.txt
bleh.txt > badfile.111

Please zip that file and store it somewhere as I would like you to email it to me.

Now delete the original file.

Step 5:

Extract and Run CWShredder immediately.
Press the fix button to clean.

Restart and run hijackThis again.
Post your new log here in your next reply.

If you set these restrictions yourself, using a program like Spybot Search & Destroy or SpywareGuard, or your System Administrator put these into place, leave the following two 06 items; otherwise, FIX them both with HijackThis:
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
