      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Something's trying to change my search page

13 posts in this topic

Teatimer is able to stop it from succeeding, but it keeps popping up with seemingly random combinations of letters inside of an http:// and .com. It's severely annoying, especially because I need to watch out when I'm trying with a, because teatimer pops up on occasion, and if I'm typing an a, it allows it. I've downloaded hijackthis, but most of the things I was too scared to fix.. I did, however, look through it and told it to ignore a few (very few) things to ignore that I knew were ok.

Please, I've tried all sorts of spyware removers, and the only one that detects anything is the ones that can't remove them. (I.E, the ones I need to pay for, or ones like hijackthis which give me too much control). Also of note, this all happened around the time a search bar suddenly downloaded itself with no warning and tried to change a bunch of stuff in the registry. The toolbar had a disable feature, which I used.. but I'm afraid that it's still there.

Alright, I did everything you listed. It did get rid of a few problems, but not the few that I wanted to deal with, mostly just tracking cookies. Teatimer is still blocking something trying to change the searchassistant value to seemingly random pages. Here's the new log:

I already checked for the latest version of hijackthis.. the only one I can download is what I have. I downloaded this just today. Where can I find 1.98? I can't find it on the site, except where it directs me to a site that doesn't let me download anything.

Please excuse the intrusion... Please do NOT fix this:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto

However, this suggests that you have things disabled in msconfig and that may be hiding part of the problem... It would be a good idea to enable everything in msconfig by choosing a Normal boot, reboot and post a fresh log...

billiebob,

The O16s and some new LOP are there too...

Erf.. sorry for not responding sooner. My computer died due to hardware problems shortly after this problem occured. Unfortunately.. the spyware reinstalled itself shortly after I got my computer up and running again. I'll be posting a new log shortly after I re-scan my computer with adaware and spybot.

Ok, just finished that. Now, I've got 3 problems. Problem one is that I keep getting this popup from teatimer telling me something is trying to change my registry. This thing is changing my search page constantly with some new random value so that I can't tell it to just remember the descsion. Fixing it in hijackthis doesn't fix it either, it happens again and again. Second problem is that when I get to a link that doesn't work, I'm brought to a 'search page' that isn't default, and I don't know how to fix it. It tells me it's in res://documents and settings/... ... and basically, following it in explorer leads me to nothing. The third problem is that every time I start my computer, something tries to change my start page to a 'passthrough' page, which loads up a bar at the bottom of my screen. Spyware guard allows me to deny this change, but it doesn't seem to stop it from happening again at the next startup. I think each of these is somehow linked, because they all appeared at exactly the same time.
