I have a bunch of viruses in my computer and I've tried to disable my system restore and when I tried to re-enable it, it wouldn't let me, so now I can't use my system restore. I use AVG 6.0 and Spybot S&D. I think the virus has taken over my computer and sometimes I can't even use my internet explorer, or my windows media player, that's why i had to download a new one twice. My computer's performance has significantly slowed down. When I try to go to the control panel it takes a few minutes before the control panel pops up. Sometimes when i try to restart my computer it just freezes. Also when I go to some websites I see words with green underlines, words such as porn, spyware etc., is this normal?

I don't know a lot about fixing these problems and don't know much about computers so please help me.

thanx i appreciate any help.

here's my Hijackthis log:

You have the Peper trojan, which requires special treatment to put it out of your misery!
Please download and run this uninstaller. You must be on line for this to work correctly.

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

First of all thanx for replying, I followed your instructions and deleted the things you told me to delete, however, I cannot delete C:\WINDOWS\bxxs5.dll, also i cannot find C\WINDOWS\SYSUPD.EXE, and C:\WINDOWS\bqf.exe, and C:\ProgramFiles\WhenUSearch, I could not find them even after i showed the hidden files.

Sorry I wasn't able to reply right away, I've decided to sleep after waiting two hours and no replies, I posted this topic at about 11:30 pm (i live in alabama), so it was getting late and there were no replies.

Once again thanx for replying

Just as you've requested here's my new HiJackThis log

You still have the peper trojan in there, along with most of the other items I listed originally.

For the peper fix, go to this page, and click on item 5 peper uninstaller. You must remain on line for this to work.

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

Looking a LOT better! Just a little more to do.

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rklmb] C:\WINDOWS\rklmb.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ClockSync] C:\PROGRA~1\CLOCKS~1\Sync.exe /q

Reboot, and delete

files
C:\WINDOWS\rklmb.exe

folder
C:\PROGRA~1\CLOCKS~1

These may be hidden files. See HERE for how to show hidden files.

Please post a followup Hijack this log.

I activated the show hidden files but I still could not find:

files
C:\WINDOWS\rklmb.exe

folder
C:\PROGRA~1\CLOCKS~1

One question: Do I have to run the Spybot S&D before I scan for HiJackthis, or can I just run HiJackThis and post my log. (Previously, I have been running S&D before I scan for HiJackthis, I just want to know if this is necessary).

Thanks for your help
;)

Well, running Spybot may remove things tha were suggested for removal with Hijack this. That would account for not finding some of the files etc.

The folder you could not find,C:\PROGRA~1\CLOCKS~1,, would show up in explorer or my computer as c:\ Program files\ clocksync. The shortened name is the old 8+3 DOS name.

My computer has been trouble free for a month or two but last night AVG found a new virus in my computer. AVG resident shield "red screen" popped out of nowhere and everytime I close it, my screen would go to desktop for 1 second and go back to the red screen.

Here's my new HiJack This log:

What message does AVG give you? Does it give a filename and path? Does it offer to fix or delete?

Sounds like an infected incoming email?
I'm sure Dave38 will be by when it's that time in England -

In the meantime, try getting an online virus scan.

Is housecall only for netscape and internet explorer, because I use mozilla. (Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm not a computer genius). Also I can't download pandasoftware, i tried to scan my computer and I get a message that says the page doesn't exist.

thanx

First, make certain that you know the exact path and filename that is reported by AVG.
(C:\windows\temp\setup.exe is what you posted earlier.)

With that info, reboot your computer, and tap F8 as it boots. From the menu, select command prompt only.

At the command prompt, type
cd windows\temp<enter>
del filename <enter>

If the file is in another folder, use that path in the first command.
Reboot.

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\sb.htm

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IEDriver] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IEDriver\IEDriver.exe

Reboot and delete the folder C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IEDriver

These may be hidden files. See HERE for how to show hidden files.

Please post a followup Hijack this log, and say if your problems persist.
Be wary of strong drink. It may make you shoot at tax collectors, and miss!

I have a list of the paths and file names that AVG provided, can you tell me what you want me to do to them and do you think that it can be performed by me who doesn't know a whole lot about computers.

I couldn't find "command prompt only" on the menu there's one that says "safe mode with command prompt"

Also, what would happen to my computer if I leave it at "safe mode with command prompt".?

Also what would happen if I search for c\windows\temp\setup.exe on files and folders and i delete whatever it finds, is this a smart thing to do? (sorry if that was a stupid question).

Everytime I ran Spybot S&D that's when the red AVG screen pops up, but this morning I ran it and no red screen pops up, I'm assuming that the problem is fixed after I ran AVG and moved to viruses to the virus vault.

Also while running Spybot I happen to glance at the bottom where it says " Running bot-check" where it shows what's being scanned I saw it scanning "CoolWebSearch" does this mean that I have that virus or whatever it is? Should I install CoolWeb shredder or just don't worry about it because I'm not using IE, I'm using Mozilla.

Hopefully the problem is fixed. Please see if my log file is clean

thanx

No, the bar at the bottom of the spybot window shows what it is looking for, not what it has found!!

If AVG is reporting no more problems, you shoudl be OK. Your log is clean.
