      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.   EDIT: I have asked our hosting service to do the restore at 9 PM Central time and it looks like it will go forward at that time.  Please prepare whatever you need to prepare so that we can restore your topics when the forum is stable again.

backweblite plz check my log

4 posts in this topic

Good evening all

I've just spent about 20 minutes trying to log in on the old site ... didn't realise you had all moved .. DOH

I've just run a S&D and found 58 entries for 'back web lite' ... I've done some reading and some say it is spyware and others say it is harmless and probably part of some other program that has been downloaded ... thought I would check with you guys first before I delete just in case it is needed for something else.

While I'm here can I ask one more thing? A while ago my daughter downloaded Smile Central ... I ran a log and thought that I'd deleted it, however, while looking around for this backweb lite thing on my computer I have found and entry for My Web Search Smiley Central in my 'add/remove program' section, when I tried to delete it it says

Rundll Error loading c:\progra~1\mywebs~1\bar\1bin\mwsbar.dll The specified module could not be found

The computer seems to be running alright, but it has frozen up a couple of times today for no apparant reason. Wondered if someone would please take a look at my log and tell if I'm ok and if I should delete these Back web lite entries or not.

I don't really see anything, but you should uninstall Messenger Plus. It comes with the Lop hijacker.

If you want a better IM client, I recommend Trillian. The only flaw I've seen is that it doesn't support NAT IP address filtering for file transfers yet.

Other than that, you're clean.

You may wish to look at Mozilla Firefox instead of IE. It has no security holes, doesn't integrate into the Windows shell (which is a bad thing due to the shell's control over the system), doesn't download anything without your approval, and doesn't get hijacked.

It also takes up less resources and uses tabs or new windows (tabs save desktop and taskbar space and make closing windows easier). It also comes with a built-in popup blocker as well as the ability to block images from servers (i.e. advertisements) with a right-click.

Firefox is immune to CWS in all its forms. You will _never_ get hijacked by CWS or any of its affiliates ever again if you use Firefox.

There's a link to it in my signature.

IE-SPYAD places over 4,000 known evil sites into the Restricted Sites zone in Internet Explorer so they can't execute ActiveX, Java, or place cookies on your machine. It's a rather nice thing to have. There's a link to it in my signature.

SpywareBlaster can prevent spyware from installing itself on your computer. It does require updating every now and again, but it's rather easy to operate. Just install, run, update, click "Protect," and you're done. Update once every month or so. There's a link in my signature.

Happy computing, and don't forget to use Windows Update once a week!

Glad to hear that my log is clean ... I assume this means that I can leave the 'back web lite' entries that S&D found (?)

My only other worry is the 'My Web Search smiley central' thing that is in the 'add and remove progams' bit ... it won't let me delete it ... is it safe to leave it?

Also, I have looked for the messenger plus that you mentioned and it is not in the 'add/remove' bit, but I did find 'msn messenger 6.2' and 'msn add-in for windows' is this what you are talking about?

I have looked at the Mozilla stuff a few times and I'm very tempted to try it, but to be honest I've only ever used IE and I'm frightened to download something I've never actually seen on anyones computer before in case I mess things up. I'm no computer expert and I'd be gutted if the whole thing crashed and I didn't know what to do with it, it's a fear of something new I think. Do you know if it is possible to run the two alongside for a while until we get confident with the Mozilla?

Don't worry! I understand where you're coming from.

Of course it's possible to run IE and FireFox at the same time. I do that at work all the time - Firefox is my main browser, but I use IE for Windows Update there.

Don't worry about MSN Plus now. As long as Lop doesn't show up in the log, you're fine.

To get rid of Smiley Central, go here and download Tweak UI.

Right-click the .inf file, then choose Install.

Open up the Control Panel, then double-click Tweak UI. Choose the Add/Remove tab and select MWS/Smiley Central, then click "Remove." That'll get it out of the Add/Remove list, and Ad-Aware and Spybot both kill it on sight.
