      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Well... looks clean from what this shows, though there are a few things that you don't need loading at startup. I also recommend uninstalling Norton completely (it's a system hog which might be causing the slowdows) and going with AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/) or TrendMicro's HouseCall online scan (http://housecall.trendmicro.com).

Open HiJackThis and click Scan. In the list that comes up, click the little checkmark boxes next to each of the following 4 items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\jusched.exe

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

O4 - Global Startup: WinZip Quick Pick.lnk = C:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXE

Once you have those four items checked, click Fix Checked and let it do it's thing. When that's done, uninstall Norton and try HouseCall or AVG (both free and spyware/adware clean).

Try that and see if that helps the computer speed up any.

Hi fictional_man, (and Aaron B.!)

Aaron, fictional_man came in the chat last night and asked for further assistance. Me and fictional go WAY back. :)

I still have CasProg and Gamebar Toolbar for IE after following your instructions

Install this small tool called MyUninstaller v1.20 . With it you'll be able to remove those stuborn entries in the add/remove list. MyUninstaller is an alternative utility to the standard Add/Remove applet of Windows operating system. It displays the list of all installed application, and allows you to uninstall an application, delete an uninstall entry, and save the list of all installed applications into a text file or HTML file.

MyUninstaller also provides additional information for most installed applications that the standard Add/Remove applet doesn't display: product name, company, version, uninstall string, installation folder and more.

http://freehost14.websamba.com/nirsoft/utils/myuninst.html

Main page for the above product:

http://nirsoft.mirrorz.com/

Next, copy and paste this line into the address bar of Internet Explorer:

java script:navigator.userAgent

Post the results back into this thread.

Aaron is right about Norton, fictional_man. Norton is a BIG time system hog and slows your computer down. You will likely see a speed improvement if you get rid of it. Again, your choice, but there's my 2 cents.

Turned out to be false positives

Could there still be junk on my system(other then norton) that I don't know about?

Microsoft User groups have not answered my post on increasing speed and performance.

My computer has

AMD ATHLON XP 2000 Processor 1.66 GIghertz

What can I do to improve system performance and speed?

Do I need to physically upgrade my computer? (faster CPU,

More RAM, Clean hard drive?)

Windows allows you to change the performance settings.

What settings are recomended?

I still need a good firewall
