      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.   EDIT: I have asked our hosting service to do the restore at 9 PM Central time and it looks like it will go forward at that time.  Please prepare whatever you need to prepare so that we can restore your topics when the forum is stable again.

Hello,

Will you please do both an online virus scan and an online Trojan scan? I suggest you use the Trend Micro virus scan and the Sygate Trojan scan. You will find links for these in my signature below. Reboot between each scan and let them fix anything they may find.

Reboot.

Next, download and install both Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. You will find links these two free programs in my signature below as well as a link that will take you to special instructions for updating and configuring both programs for optimum results. Please print out and follow those instructions closely, particularly those directions on configuring Ad-aware for a customized scan. Reboot after each scan.

Scan with HijackThis, post a fresh log into this same thread, and we will work on the remaining issues.

Hello,

NOTE: Please print a copy of these instructions because you will be working with all windows closed except HijackThis.

Right now, you have HijackThis on your Desktop. It needs to be in its own folder so that any backup copies it makes will be kept together and not scattered about your Desktop. Please right click on a blank space on your Desktop, select “New” then “Folder.” Name the new folder something like HJT or HijackThis. Now, you can just drag HijackThis.exe into its new folder.

Please run HijackThis and place a check mark next to the following items then, WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED, select “fix checked.” Please note that the items in BLUE are optional suggested fixes that will not remove the programs, only keep them from running at start-up, and may have the added benefit of freeing up some of your system’s resources.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4E88E84D-7ADB-455B-8FCC-81B1DDC866E1} - C:\WINNT\teojds.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" –atboottime

You have PowerReg Scheduler in your log. This is a registration reminder that is used by a number of different companies. It is not needed and some people think that it reports back to the company about your computer, so I suggest fixing it...

O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe

If you do not recognize and did not intentionally install the following 08 item, “fix” it with HijackThis:

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Dictionary - http://www.ezreference.com/_/ie-com-p3.htm

If you do not recognize and did not intentionally install this following 08 item, “fix” it with HijackThis:

You are using DAP which is not technically malware, but it may include malware and allow it into your system. You can find safer alternatives here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php?cat=dlman#dlman To remove it, fix these next two 08 items with HJT and then remove DAP in Add/Remove Programs....

Next, change your settings to show hidden files and folders. Then reboot into safe mode and delete the following file and folder:

C:\WINNT\dwrdbldc.exe < file

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\ < folder

Reboot into normal mode, scan with HijackThis, and post a fresh log to this same thread.

Hi,

The following activeX controls will reinstall when (and if) you revisit that web site, unless you know they are from a safe source, check to remove:

O16 - DPF: {4E330863-6A11-11D0-BFD8-006097237877} (InstallFromTheWeb ActiveX Control) - http://tw.msi.com.tw/autobios/client/iftwclix.cab

Other than that one item, your log looks good.

Please take a minute to read the short article, "How did I get infected in the first place?" (See link below). It has useful information to help you keep your computer from getting reinfected with malware. It also has links to useful free programs.

Also note that there are links below for free antivirus and firewall programs should you have need of them.
