Could someone please check the HijackThis log and let me know what needs to be fixed? My browser keeps resetting itself to http://mypoiskovik.com/index.htm and is adding all these random sites to my favorite places. I've done everything suggested in the FAQ, and have run SpyGuard, Spyware Blaster, Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, and NoAdware, but to no avail. The following is the HijackThis log:

Hello,

You have a CWS infection. Go here and download CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom.

Reboot into safe mode by continuously tapping the F8 key as your computer is rebooting.

Next, unzip the file, then click on the shredder icon to open the program. Click on the FIX button at the bottom of the right side of the panel. It will show a screen reminding you to CLOSE ALL WINDOWS AND BROWSERS. Be sure only the Shredder window is open, then click "OK." It will analyze your system and tell you what it has found. Let it FIX everything it finds. Reboot. Then, to be safe, run it AGAIN and do the same if it finds anything further.

Reboot into normal mode and proceed directly to the Windows Update page (see link in my signature below). Scan for updates then download and install ALL critical updates. You may have to do this a little at a time, rebooting and returning to the update page multiple times, but it is important that you continue until no more updates are available for installation. Right now, your system is badly in need of updates and will remain vulnerable to malware attacks untill that situation is remedied.

Reboot, scan with HijackThis and post a fresh log to this same thread.

After running all the spyware removals and updating windows, here's the results. I've also managed to get rid of the "new" broswer that was plaguing me. Thanks!

Stormwingcat,

Good job installing those updates! Posted Image This log looks much better, but we still have some cleanup to do.

NOTE: Please print a copy of these instructions because you will be working with all windows closed except HijackThis.

Right now, you have HijackThis on your Desktop. It needs to be in its own folder so that all backup copies it makes will be kept together and not scattered about your Desktop. Please right click on a blank space on your Desktop, select “New” then “Folder.” Name the new folder something like HJT or HijackThis. Now, you can just drag HijackThis into its new folder.

Please run HijackThis and place a check mark next to the following items then, WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED, select “fix checked.” Please note that the items in BLUE are optional suggested fixes that have the added benefit of freeing up some of your system’s resources.

Optional fix. This is a questionable program that may likely install spyware/adware. I suggest you first try uninstalling it from Add/Remove Programs if you decide not to keep it:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Blubster] C:\Program Files\Blubster\Blubster.exe SILENT

The next two 04 fixes will not disable the programs but will keep them from running at start-up, freeing system resources:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" –osboot

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSNSysRestore] C:\WINNT\System32\pc32.exe bg

See if you can remove this through Add/Remove Programs, then “fix” this if it still remains:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ares] "C:\Program Files\Ares\Ares.exe" –h

Fixing will not disable the program, only keep it from running at start-up:
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Works Calendar Reminders.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\wkcalrem.exe

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.r...ip/RdxIE601.cab

O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://utu.popcap.co...aploader_v5.cab

Next, change your settings to show hidden files and folders. Then reboot into safe mode and delete the following file and folder:

C:\WINNT\System32\pc32.exe bg < file

C:\Program Files\Ares\ < folder

Reboot.

Next, go to Start > Control Panel > Internet Options and, on the "General" tab, select "Delete Files;" on the popup box, select "Delete all offline content."

Now go to Start > Run and type in %temp%, click, "OK." Delete all files in that folder.

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\WINNT\Temp and empty that folder.

Reboot, scan with HijackThis, and post a fresh log to this same thread.

stormwingcat,

You're very welcome! I'm happy we could help. You've done a great job, and you have a clean log! Posted Image

If you're not currently using a firewall, you may want to take a look at the two free ones for which you'll find links below.

Also, please take a moment or two to read the article, "How did I get infected in the first place?" (See link below). You'll find lots of good information on keeping your system malware-free in the future, and you'll also find links for good, free anti-spyware tools.
