(PGPhantom: Edited - Please keep personal feelings/opinions about boyfriends etc out of these messages - This is a public, family oriented forum)

A dialer thing keeps popping up and I've been getting a message from Norton saying computer is infected by backdoor virus. I deal with computers at work and can get around just fine, but this has me baffled. I've scanned with norton, run spybot, followed the instruction in the FAQ, etc.., but can't get rid of this damn thing.

Help guys!

Thanks
Val

Strange entries

1. Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder. Put your HijackThis.exe there, and run it from there in the future ;)

2. Reboot into safe mode by tapping F8 frequently during bootup.

3. Check these in HijackThis:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [6464ms64ms] C:\WINDOWS\system32\6464ms64ms.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [64syms] C:\WINDOWS\system32\64syms.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ntsyhh32] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntsyhh32.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [3264ntntor] C:\WINDOWS\system32\3264ntntor.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SPsyhhnt] C:\WINDOWS\SPsyhhnt.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SP32s-nt64] C:\WINDOWS\system32\SP32s-nt64.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [32ntsyPE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\32ntsyPE.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [hh64PE32] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hh64PE32.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PEhhSPhhs-] C:\WINDOWS\system32\PEhhSPhhs-.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [s-mssySP] C:\WINDOWS\system32\s-mssySP.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [64SP] C:\WINDOWS\64SP.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [s-PE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\s-PE.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [32ntntor] C:\WINDOWS\system32\32ntntor.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SPntsynt] C:\WINDOWS\system32\SPntsynt.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [hhsy] C:\WINDOWS\hhsy.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [hhSP3264] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hhSP3264.exe

O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

4. Close all other windows and browsers, and hit Fix Checked.

5. Reboot into safe mode by tapping F8 frequently during bootup.
Make sure your settings allow you to view "Hidden files". Open up any explorer windows and click on "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" and be sure to check off "Show Hidden Files and Folders".

6. Delete these files in safe mode:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\6464ms64ms.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\64syms.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntsyhh32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\3264ntntor.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SPsyhhnt.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\SP32s-nt64.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\32ntsyPE.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hh64PE32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\PEhhSPhhs-.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\s-mssySP.exe

C:\WINDOWS\64SP.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\s-PE.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\32ntntor.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SPntsynt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\hhsy.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hhSP3264.exe

7. Go to Start - Run, and type
%TEMP% Hit OK.

Now delete the CONTENTS of this folder, not the folder itself.
Empty your recyclebin.

8. Reboot into normal mode, make a new HijackThis log, and post it here :)

Hello,

I made it all the way to step 6 but I can't seem to find the windows \system files you asked me to delete. I scanned with hijack twice, but they don't show up in the log. Here's my scan after completing the first 5 steps.

Thanks

Clean, problems solved? :)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers real-time protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free Google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete your Temp folders regularly. Use CleanUp! to do this automatically for you!

A dialer still keeps popping up and I'm still getting reoccuring messages from Norton about a backdoor trojan that it has found and deleted :hmmm: . The computer seems to be moving a little faster, but this is how the problems started the first time around.

Thanks for your help!

It's back with a vengence. I woke up this morning and saw the web dialer back on my desktop along with about 30 "it's already running" error boxes lined up one after the other. I close them all and they're back again within 15 minutes or so.

Help me please!

Thanks

Thanks for getting back to me. I woke up this morning and had almost 50 popups on my desktop. I deleted the files you listed and ran both virus programs. They both came up with more than 20 trojan infections :wtf: that were uncleanable. Here's my new log.

Thank you!

Sorry this is turning into such a hassle. Here's the info you requested.

After the scan, there were 4 viruses listed as "Java Bytever" in C;\documents settings...

There were 16 viruses listed as "Troj Small Do" in windows\system\32....etc..

And there were 4 more "Troj Small Do's" under windows\ ... followed by various letters and numbers.

Let me know what else you need.

Thank you again!

Hmm, seems to be you're badly infected...

Download and install a trial of TDS-3
http://tds.diamondcs...p?page=download

Download and install a trial of TrojanHunter
http://www.trojanhunter.com/

Reboot into safe mode, and run them both.

Now reboot into normal mode, and please let me know if it has worked :)
