Hi funnie11

try doing defrag & scandisk in safe mode. Pogrammes that run in the background can hamper your defrag sometimes making it keep starting over.

thanx, i tried that, and it seemed to be going a little faster, but it would still restart every once in a while. when i pressed CTRL-ALT-DELETE, it said that the only 2 programs running were Explorer and Scandisk, so i dont kno. Also, wut do they mean when they say press CTRL-ALT-DELETE and click on the Processes tab? i dont hav that. is it because i hav windows 98?

Hi funnie11

CTRL-ALT-DELETE brings up the task manager
Task manager enables you to end processes and applications that are running on your computer
Useful when a programme stops responding you can end it in task manager

This may be the problem:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETROPA\ONE-TOUCH MULTIMEDIA KEYBOARD\MMKEYBD.EXE

Found this at another forum, couldn't check at sysinfo.org as it seems to be experiencing bandwidth problems. Seems like this might be the culprit that is writing to disk.

"Hewlett Packard Pavilion computers come pre-installed with "phone-home" spyware made by Netropa. This nasty phone-home software is named the "One touch multimedia keyboard". This spy ware is located in a computer file executable named mmkeybd.exe which drives the HP Pavilion pre-installed internet enabled keyboard."

Full thread here:
http://www.ahfb2000....p?threadid=1184

IMPORTANT - Make sure you check with an expert here first before you start making any changes.

PS. Ctrl-Alt-Del won't show all the processes running on your PC. You can use something like the free, stand-alone Process Viewer to kill any running processes, available from www.sysinternals.com

Hope this helps..........Good luck. :D
