I'd like to be considered for bootcamp. This whole malware/malicious code thing seems to be spiralling out of control. More and more HTJ logs appearing on the boards with what seems to be a longer and longer wait time. Presumably, the less infected machines out there, the slower infections will spread. It's got to be good therefore to spread the knowledge.

I would like to ask how much time do you need to commit to be a helper trainee, and how long do you need to put aside for boot camp?

Thanks

scorpiotiger,

The time investment is up to the Trainee... We have laid out a path for people to follow to become a trained Helper and you choose the pace down that path... It can be done quite quickly if you choose, but we have some people that have been doing a little at a time for months... One problem with taking too much time is that the target changes so quickly that you can get behind if you just miss a week or two...

If you decide you want to take the plunge, post back to that effect...

I'm interested in joining the Boot Camp. I'm really interested in learning the detailed workings of computers. If joining the Boot Camp is not the way to do this, it seems like a worthwile start.

The Boot Camp is a hidden forum where you can learn the ropes and advance to Helper. Experts and others will be there to guide you and answer your questions. A lot of good info there.

Just reply to this thread if you would like to be a Helper Trainee.

An Admin should turn up to admit you within a few hours. Watch for the "Group: Helper Trainee" to show up on the left there, under your name and avatar. (You may need to refresh the page).

Then you will be able to see the Boot Camp and go to Welcome! (Please read)

FreakyMonkey,

There is no test to become a Trainee and you cannot become a Helper just by taking a test... You need to go through some training to become a Helper... Are you interested in pursuing that path??

I would like to get access to the bootcamp. I post over in dslreports as TheJoker (hence the avatar, but the alias was already used here). FWIW, a *long* time ago I used to be the moderator in Smartnet's virus forum (bad name, it was an anti-virus forum of course)... you know, back before the internet caught on and relay nets via dial-up on an HST modem was the standard :)

CNM,
Thank you for the invite to boot camp. :) I am currently attending college to become an IT professional. I help a lot of my friends and co-workers with their computer problems, upgrades, custom builds, etc. I read up on new topics and problems almost constantly. My aim is to help people who don't understand this stuff and need the help to eliminate it as you have already noticed. Please accept me in participating as a helper.

Thank you,
Archangel :)
