      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.   EDIT: I have asked our hosting service to do the restore at 9 PM Central time and it looks like it will go forward at that time.  Please prepare whatever you need to prepare so that we can restore your topics when the forum is stable again.

i've tried Spybot S&D, CWS shredder, and Ad-Aware, but I can't seem to get rid of mypoiskovik.com, which automatically sets itself as my starting home-page.

Also, when i shut down my comp, my computer must end a program called "win min". i didn't know if it's related, but thought i'd bring it up anyway.

finally, on startup of my computer, a window automatically opens, opening a file labled "c:documents"...don't know if that's related either.

here's my hijack this logfile--and as always, many thanks to the makers of this incredible website. you guys have saved my life (my comp) multiple times. thanks!

Hello,

I see that you currently have HijackThis in a folder named "SpywareKillers," and that's fine if it's the only program in that folder. If not, then please create a folder for HijackThis (you can create the folder inside the SpywareKillers folder if you like) and name it something like HJT or HijackThis, and then drag HijackThis.exe into that folder. It needs to be in its own folder so that the backups it creates will be confined to that folder and readily available if they are needed for a restoration.

NOTE: Please print a copy of these instructions because you will be working with all windows closed except HijackThis.

P2P Networking is a totally useless Kazaa add-on, and it's been reported to be responsible for serious system slowdowns. It is strongly suggested that you remove this program in Add/Remove Programs, then fix the related RED 04 item below and delete the associated folder (also in red below).

Please run HijackThis and place a check mark next to the following items then, WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED, select “fix checked.” Please note that the items in BLUE are optional suggested fixes that will not remove the programs, only keep them from running at start-up, and may have the added benefit of freeing up some of your system’s resources.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MGW6] c:\documents and settings\lynn's account\local settings\temp\MGW6.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [dllhelp] c:\windows\dllhelp.exe

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} (Web P2P Installer) -

Next, change your settings to show hidden files and folders. Then reboot into safe mode and delete the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\ < folder

c:\documents and settings\lynn's account\local settings\temp\MGW6.exe < file

c:\windows\dllhelp.exe < file

Reboot.

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example:

C:\WINDOWS\Temp\

C:\Temp\

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select "delete all offline content."

Reboot, scan with HijackThis, and post a fresh log into this same thread.

Okay,

There's just this one item remaining, but it's the baddie that will keep your problem coming back, so it has to be eliminated:

We're going to try this a little differently. Change your settings to show hidden files and folders. Then reboot into safe mode and then, while remaining in safe mode, and WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED scan with HijackThis, place a check mark next to the following item, then select "fix checked" and remove it with HijackThis:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [dllhelp] c:\windows\dllhelp.exe

Then, while still in safe mode, delete the following file:

c:\windows\dllhelp.exe < file

Reboot into normal mode, scan with HijackThis, and post a fresh log into this same thread.

scwib,

First of all, download and run CWShredder.

Download CWShredder version 1.59.1:

http://www.merijn.org/files/cwshredder.zip

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

http://computercops.biz/downloads-cat-14.html

Extract CWShredder to its own folder.

Reboot, into safe mode, this way:

Turn on the computer

Immediately begin tapping the <F8> key.

Use the arrow keys to highlight Safemode and press the <Enter> key.

Run the program.

Click the "Fix" button and follow the instructions you will receive.

Make sure you let it fix all CWS Remnants.

Close the program, reboot, and post a FRESH HijackThis log in a NEW forum thread of your own. Thanks.
