[B]hello
try shutting off every thing but explorer and system tray than do install.
set a system restore point first.

In the Advanced tab of IE Options, did you check "automatically check for Internet Explorer updates" in the 'browsing' section ?

You probably have a forgetful registry key, one that didn't change when you uninstalled IE 6. Try this;

CLick Start >Run >type regedit. Navigate to the following key;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Active Setup \ Installed Components \ {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}

In the right hand pane find the value "IsInstalled". Right click it, select modify, then change it to 0.

You should be able to reinstall Internet Explorer 6 now. If you want to reinstall Outlook Express, do the same to this registry key;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Active Setup \ Installed Components \ {44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}

However, before doing any of the above, I would strongly recommend you to post a HJT log. If the cause of IE 6's uninstall was because of a browser hijacker or influx of popups etc, re-installing IE 6 won't cure it.

You will have to remove those parasites and trojans before regaining control of IE.

Could you please download Hijack This. Make a new folder on your C: drive called HJT and move the uncompressed file to it. Double click the exe and run it. The Scan button will turn into a Save button. Save the resulting log somewhere safe then copy and paste it into this thread.
Short tutorial on how to use it can be found Here

thanks guys. I appreciate your quick response.

I'm away from the home pc on business until weeks end and will try the recommendations then. Will also post a hjt log at that time.

Regards,

Tony :)

ie6 re-install won't work.

If you still don't succeed:

What exactly happens when you try to download and install? If error messages, please tell us what they say.

Where are you downloading from?

Sorry. Took a bit longer 2 get back! "TEENAGERS".

I managed 2 get 5.5 2 6.0 with help from another forum. I will post here when I get some more time.

BTW you sent me in the right direction. Thanks!

You (collectively) asked for a HJT post. Here 'tis, post the 6.0 fix.

Sorry for the delay in reply - work dominated!

I found a successful method at - "http://www.annoyance...me/r1055499499"

"To remove IE5.5 cleanly before installing IE6.0 IEradicator "http://www.litepc.co...radicator.html"

Download the IE6.0 SP 1 Installer from the MAIN WINDOWS DOWNLOAD site MS DOWNLOADS

Or the full program as mentioned in the link below.

Then use IEradicator to remove IE completely from your system and re-install after
running scandisk & and defrag.

Then fully update your system at the Windows Up-Date site for ALL system-critical
and security up-dates: Windows Update "http://v4.windowsupd...microsoft.com/"

SEE: INSTALLING IE6.0 SP1 RESPONSE "http://www.annoyance...8/n1052135144""

It worked well for me.

Sorry again for not getting back sooner.
