      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

I've got it BAD.

6 posts in this topic

Well, I recently turned System Restore back 'on' (after it was off for some reason), and all of a sudden I have spyware and browsers all over the place. Also, my Search Assistant toolbar always comes back after I reboot, and my IE start page is set back to MSN each time.

I started at the top and followed the instructions for removing TwainTec posted on another thread, but as soon as I reboot back in Normal mode, it was baaaack. :)

Here's my log:

Hi,

1) Restart in Safe Mode (see "How To:" below)

2) Enable Hidden Files (see "How To:" below)

Locate and delete the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\twlmds.exe <--this file

C:\Program Files\WindowsSA <--this folder

C:\WINDOWS\twaintec.dll <--this file

C:\WINDOWS\twaintec.ini <--this file

C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe <--this file

C:\install.cab <--this file

While still in Safe Mode:

Close all open windows, rescan with HijackThis and "Fix checked" the following:

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe,

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {000020DD-C72E-4113-AF77-DD56626C6C42} - C:\WINDOWS\twaintec.dll

Restart normally and then ...

Download: SpyBot-Search & Destroy 1.3

Run a scan, "fix" everything marked in red, then reboot.

After the above ...

Important!

Your system is severly out of date!

Visit Windows Update and install all the "Critical Updates"

Fantastic instructions, WinHelp2002! System is behaving much better, and I have XP SP1 installed with all critical updates.

I performed all your steps with System Restore turned off. Should I turn System Restore back on yet?

c:\windows\twaintec.dll

c:\windows\twaintec.ini

These files were not in the c:\windows dir, but I found them in c:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Temp\THI3F7.tmp folder. I had just deleted all files and folders from that Temp folder minutes before, but rebooting brought them back. They appear to be gone for good now.

As requested, here is my latest log:
