      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Hey guys

I've scanned with Ad-Aware and Spybot, but I still get pop ups for ringtones for a mobile/cell phone every time I close IE. Here's the HJT log.

Hi,

Important! Create a folder via Windows Explorer for HijackThis, then move the file (HijackThis.exe) to that folder. This way any backups created are saved in a legit folder.

1) Restart in Safe Mode (see "How To:" below)

2) Enable Hidden Files (see "How To:" below)

Locate and delete the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\cluia.exe <--this file

While still in Safe Mode:

Close all open windows, rescan with HijackThis and "Fix checked" the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cluia] C:\WINDOWS\System32\cluia.exe

Restart normally and then ...

Important!

Your system is severly out of date!

Visit Windows Update and install all the "Critical Updates"

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

After the above post a fresh log ...

Hi,

[Manual XP fix for WinPup]

[step 1]

Start | Search (type) hosts (press Enter)

Right-click on HOSTS (right pane) select: Rename

Rename to HOSTS.old

Note: ignore hosts.sam, the real HOSTS file has no 3-letter extension.

Download: hosts.zip

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Unzip and place in: "WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC" folder.

Note: once in place this will prevent the trojan from updating itself.

Start | Run (type) cmd (click Ok)

(type) cd\windows\system32 (press Enter)

(type) dir /a /O:S D *.exe>C:\findexe.txt (press Enter)

Start | Run (type) cmd (click Ok)

(type) cd\windows (press Enter)

(type) dir /a /O:S D *.exe>C:\winexe.txt (press Enter)

Locate C:\"findexe.txt" and C:\winexe.txt

Send them to me (attached) for inspection, you'll find my email address on my site > here

Note: do not reboot as this trojan changes the active filename on each restart.

Alex,

Does C:\WINDOWS\System32\ebugd.exe exist?

Alex,

It wasn't there

Ok, it showed up in your last log .......

Have HijackThis "fix" the following: (and reboot)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ebugd] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ebugd.exe

After the above ...

"Flush System Restore" (see "How To" below)

Then update NAV and run a full system scan

Then Enable System Restore and create a Restore Point.

After the above ... go to Windows Update and install all the "Critical Updates", otherwise you will just get infected again, as these culprits take advantage of unpatched machines.

After the above post a fresh log ...
