We have recently recovered from a virus that ate up most of Windows .exe files. To run any program we have to right click and use the Run as option. Then we have to unclick protect my computer.....

I cannot use any of the down loads you offer, I get error messages... I am sure I have at least two hijackers as well. Solongas is one.. It seems to have imbedded itself into our C drive. Our homepage comes up as C://system32/hp.uti(or something similar) and it is a porn filled search engine...

I am thinking at this point that I may just have to somehow clear the whole computer and re-load windows again. Is this my only option? I am not very computer savvy(if you haven't figured that out yet..lol), and really hate to pay the high cost of bringing it into the shop.

ANy suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Laura

If you were able to get the programs at least downloaded and installed and you're only having problems running them, try rebooting in SafeMode and running them.

To boot into SafeMode, when you turn on your computer or reboot it, keep pressing F8 and it should bring up a menu that you can select "Boot in SafeMode". There will be others such as with Networking or with Command Prompt, just select the normal Boot in SafeMode option.

You'll know when you get into SafeMode because your screen will look funky and whatnot. Once its loaded up, trying running the programs from here. This usually works better as a lot of the evil malware will not load in SafeMode.
