Got the good ol' Morwill Search and couldn't stand more then an hour of it... so surfed "morwill search" on Google and found this place. I couldn't understand a single word any of the post were saying until i realized i needed to get HiJackThis and join your forums. Thankfully, Morwill is gone, but my life is being tormented by other adware now. So it's off to the research table until another Forum Deity or such can give me a hand.

You guys are great, and have inspired me to further my studying from A+ and Net+ Certs and on to waging war against spy/adware and beyond. Thanks!!!

I still don't understand all this technical forum stuff you guys do, like adding signatures (whatever that is), pictures, etc. but I guess knowing how to spell and post a boring segment is good enough :)

See ya all around the SWI

While reading through my new issue of Langlist I tried one of his subscriber's sites, Malware Help.org and they had a link to this site. Either the current newsletter or the 10/27 one had a hint regarding Visionware Media Player which triggered a recollection of having seen it in on my PC. Sure enough, it was there but no longer :). Strangely enough though, Add/Remove did not remove the C:\Program Files/ folder and subfolders which had to be manually deleted.

BTW, I was impressed enough on my first visit to send a Paypal contribution to you all. I wish it could be more but...

Best of wishes,

Billy

My lovely wife to be found the site whilst trying to solve a problem with a virus on her computer.

Once her problem was solved, I thought I would enlist in Boot Camp and have loved every moment of my time here since then :D

My dad, who works as a software developer, suggested that I download Spybot S&D to make sure my laptop was clean of spyware. After downloading, installing, and running the program, I found that I had well over 1000 spyware programs on my box! (They didn't hijack or damage anything, but still...) After cleaning everything up, I ran a Google search on "spyware information". The first non-sponsored result was...spywareinfo.com.

 Through Merijn like many at SpywareInfo.
Currently playing with new tool I found at Sysinternals called RootkitReveale;don't understand it much but
am worried I have picked up some hidden trash on my PC.
I look for digital artwork on the net. This last week when at one site using their links to more pictures ended up at a porn site.Think they stole the orginal address;anyway sometimes now getting "page cannot be displayed". Sometimes a page just takes so long loading I give up on that page(am on dailup)maybe too much animation, don't know. I regularly run my temp files & cookies through a shredder;also run security scans. But am able to get to most sites so will see.

While asking a question in our local community forum the owner of Hostpc hosting company Joe answered my question and recommended I try out your online scan for spyware. I had forgotten that I had visited your site way back in June 2004 good to be back to it!!

I found out about SWI from my friend who spent 10 hours one day cleaning his computer from junk. He used a few forums to help himself repair his computer. SWI seems to be one of the largest anti spyware forums.

My first contact with SWI was trough an help file in HijackThis. it said that I would get help by understanding what my logfile was, and wich processes I could kill :) still waiting for an answer though.. but that's alright because I posted my log this morning.

I could fix most of my spyware problems myself, but I'm stuck with a startpage that I can't change. It keeps returning to this fake anti-spyware add.

Back in late 2003 - early 2004 I was having several problems with my 6 year old Win98 machine and I found Tom Coyote after searching the Internet for my symptoms. Tom's site had some info on it about SWI starting up, which I checked out and joined in June 2004. Tom Coyote was (and is) a very helpful and informative site, but I became increasingly impressed with the professionalism of SWI and eventually gravitated to it full time. I will always be grateful to Tom C. for my initial education, but I am now a full time SWI Junkie (or Groupie? or Both ?). After two more years, I finally got up the nerve to join Boot Camp and look forward to the day when I graduate to Helper and can start giving back for all the help I've received over the last two years.

Mike started this thread, on old board. http://www.spywarein...showtopic=13021

"Just out of curiosity, where did you all hear about spywareinfo? I know many of you from other security/privacy sites, but what about the rest of you?"

A Google search on a internet speed/tweak sight (don't remember which now) that wanted to install some active x stuff (not likely Tim  ), the search showed someone on your board had also asked about it (and you had advised, rightly, not to use it. No reason to install active x stuff to do the tests).
