I've been following the discussion about removing Spad / myexexex, but whatever I do, the stuff keeps coming back. In addition, I'll occasionally have a new icon on my desktop that's got a purple background with an 'X' in the center. Whenever that shows up, I'm kicked offline. When I go to properties, it says it's from www.casinopalloza.com or something to that effect. I'll delete it,but it eventually comes back. And more: in my Local Settings/Temp file, I have some .dat files that cannot be deleted (being used by another program). But here's my latest hijackthis log:

Click here to download Ad-Aware and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Then click the gear wheel at the top and check these options:

General> activate these: "Automatically save log-file" and "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"

Scanning > activate these: "Scan within archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep scan registry", "Scan my IE Favorites for banned sites" and "Scan my Hosts file"

Tweaks > Scanning Engine> activate this: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: activate these: "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Click "Proceed" to save your settings, then click "Start", make sure "Activate in-depth scan" is ticked green then scan your system. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

Reboot when done. Rescan with HJT and post a new log here so that any remnants can be removed manually.

Uninstalled then re-installed Ad-Aware per your instructions and did as you suggested. Here's my HJT log:

You're welcome but I don't think we are there yet - this may be a new form of this hijacker.

Have you already tried this:

Copy the contents of the quote box to notepad.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{869EE607-5376-486d-8DAC-EDC8E239AD5F}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{869EE607-5376-486d-8DAC-EDC8E239AD5F}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{869EE607-5376-486d-8DAC-EDC8E239AD5F}]
[-HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{869EE607-5376-486d-8DAC-EDC8E239AD5F}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{BE2F2769-8A63-4bc7-8A99-06C2C4AD7B9B}]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{BE2F2769-8A63-4bc7-8A99-06C2C4AD7B9B}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{BE2F2769-8A63-4bc7-8A99-06C2C4AD7B9B}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{869EE607-5376-486d-8DAC-EDC8E239AD5F}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{237AA178-C3BC-4f67-A8BB-D8BC14BA0B89}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{237AA178-C3BC-4f67-A8BB-D8BC14BA0B89}]
[-HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{237AA178-C3BC-4f67-A8BB-D8BC14BA0B89}]

Click File>Save As, give it the name myex.reg and under the filename set file types to All Files. Save it to the desktop. When done double click the myex.reg when asked to merge say yes.

Reboot. Delete these files if there:

C:\\Documents and settings\(username)\LOCAL Settings\Temp\HPCMDTY.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\c_10230.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\crt32_v2.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\crt2_v32.dll
C:\spad <-- whole folder

With only HJT running, have it fix:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = C:\WINDOWS\system32\searchbar.html
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Tapicfg.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\tapicfg.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RunDLL] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\System32\bridge.dll",Load

Reboot when done and post a new HJT log. Could you also download PV from: http://tools.zerosrealm.com/pv.zip

Create a folder on your desktop called PV then extract all the files in pv.zip to that folder. It will not work if you run it from inside the zip. After unzipped open the pv folder. Double click on the runme.bat

A dos window will open. Be sure to have at least 1 Internet Explorer window open. Please select option 2 for explorer dll's by typing 2 and then pressing enter.

Notepad will open with a log in it. Please copy and paste the entire log into this topic.

Well your HJT log looks clean and nothing is jumping out of your PV log. Could you let me know if it comes back next time you reboot?

Actually, when I was posting those last logs, I got kicked offline by that Default purple X that wants me to go to Casino Pallazo (or however the hell you spell it). I was able to determine through Task Manager that the Casino thing may have something to do with a file called pilf.dat. Know anything about that?

Delete that shortcut and dat file, then with only HJT running have it fix:

O9 - Extra button: Microsoft® JavaScript® Console (HKLM)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: JavaScript Console (HKLM)

Reboot when done - let me know if you are still having problems.

No reoccurences (yet), but I have this .dat file in my Local Settings/Temp folder:

Perflib_Perfdata_90.dat

It will not delete and when I try, a window says it cannot be deleted because it's being used by another program. I had nothing else running at the time. Do you know what this thing is?

Could you send a copy of it to to this e-mail address including a link to this thread in the body of the email.

There is a dat file associated with this hijacker, I'll just check it then give you removal instructions.

Huh. I just tried to e-mail it to you and Perflib_Perfdata_90.dat is gone. I ran a search of my computer and there was no sign of it. Weird.

If it shows up again, I'll e-mail it to you...

It's a temporary file used during the hijacking - consistent with the other example of this I have seen. I don't expect you'll see it again now the hijacker has gone.
