      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Hi,

Locate: C:\WINNT\System32\serinitu.exe

Right-click and select: Properties | Version

Is any info displayed there? (it's a unknown file)

Open Task Manager, highlight serinitu.exe

Then "End Process" (to stop it from running)

Next go to:

http://www.kaspersky.com/remoteviruschk.html

Click Browse and navigate to: C:\WINNT\System32\serinitu.exe

Highlight, then click Submit (see what it says)

Then post back with the above info ...

Heres the info on serinitu.exe :

File version - 5.0.0.2

Company - thunderdome

Internal name - actulice

Product name - mplayer

Original file name - actulice.exe

I went to Tast Manager but it wasnt running.

I went to that website, and scanned serinitu.exe and it said :

Kaspersky Anti-Virus has detected a virus in the file you have submitted.

Scanned file: serinitu.exe

serinitu.exe - infected by Trojan.Win32.Revop.b

Hi,

The WinPup trojan runs silently from the Windows folder.

In most cases one or more of the "clones" in the "System32" folder will show up in a HijackThis log. These are usually "65,536" bytes.

Note: the clones will generate a new filename on each restart, so a restart in Safe Mode won't catch all the files unless you kill them all.

Open Windows Explorer to C:\WINNT\System32

"Sort by size" (serinitu.exe 65,536)

If any existing clones they will all have the same size (65,536)

Delete any existing ...

Open Windows Explorer to C:\WINNT

See if "actulice.exe" or (65,536) "pup.exe" exists = delete

Then run Ad-Aware and reboot and post a fresh log ...

I did what you said.. there were a few files that were the same size, and I deleted most that did.. but a few kept coming back when I would try to delete it.

Neither actulice.exe or pup.exe existed

I ran Ad-Aware and it always finds a few "Tracking Cookies", I got rid of them, but that was all it found.

Here is my new log :

Also.. there are a few programs that are deleted from my computer, but still show up in the "Add or remove programs" list. When I try to remove them, it says a file is missing and it cant be uninstalled. Is there any way to completely delete these?

luciouz,

Does "C:\WINNT\System32\serinitu.exe" still exist?

Have HijackThis "fix" the following: (and reboot)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [serinitu] C:\WINNT\System32\serinitu.exe

If needed restart in Safe Mode, open Windows Explorer

Click "Sort by Size" and delete all the 65,536 size files

Is there any way to completely delete these?

Open Regedit to the following location:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall]

Expand the +Uninstall key, look down the left pane

Highlight the desired key, right-click and select: Delete.

Repeat as needed. Close Regedit and restart.
