I am been cursed with a new version of CWS. CWS Shredder identifies it as Searcx, but does not permantly remove it. AD-aware also can find and remove some of the registry entries, but it keeps coming back. It also changes the IE search engine to a malware version.

This trojan/hijacker loads the page about:blank then executes a pop-up which warns of various infections which redirects to a phony search page which trys to get you to buy a number of useless products that will not remove the hijacker.

What they are trying to do is to get your credit card number. I know all this because I fell for it.

Whatever is causing this creates a randomly named 31KB dll file in the system32 folder. This file can be deleted in safe mode and then the home page and search engine reset. The problem is, the whole mess keeps coming back randomly.

The latest CWShredder and Ad-aware do not permently remove the underlying process that creates the dll. I have a copy of the offending dll file. Would this be of help in trying to beat this thing?

I am not a pro with windows. My version of XP was an older one which had not been updated with the new security patches for the byte verity bug. It has been updated now, and I am going to remove Microsoft Java, but the damn thing is already alive and well in my machine. Any help out there? Thanks.

Download this file from http://downloads.sub....org/dllfix.exe .

Preferably to Desktop. Double click on it and it being a self -extractor, will create its own folder. Run Start.Bat from there. Run Option 1. which is "Run Find-All... ". Let it complete and there will be a pop-up window with a log.
Post that log here.

[ Tutorial - http://forums.subrat...p?showtopic=583 with screenshots for better understanding. Follow upto step 5 ]

Run the start.bat again Run option 2 and then chose option 2 again to let it find it.

It will then perform some routines, then the Computer will reboot with a 15 second countdown. After the reboot there will be the scan for the " dll " on-boot screen, which will search and fix it.

Run HijackThis and save the fresh log.

Post a new Output.txt (option 1 in start.bat ), the logs.txt the fix generated (you will find it automatically being made and found in the dllfix folder) and a fresh HijackThis Log.

Hi Guys,

I seem to be having the same issue as davejb.

Did running that application fix the problem?
It just seemed to trail off after the last log posting.......

Cheers,
Andrew
