Was getting hijacked by Lycos sidesearch, which was putting a search bar on the left side of my screen. I tried deleting it, but there was a ".dll" file that I couldn't delete. The sidesearch went away for about 24 hours, but now I'm getting my full screen hijacked by lycos search. Also getting some popups that are not specifically identified as lycos. Spybot isn't finding anything.

This is my hijackthis log. Hope I didn't break anything important (yet)! Thanks in advance!:

Create a new folder called C:\HijackThis, move the HijackThis.exe file into the new folder and run it from there. This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong.

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapp...://my.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html

Click here, for instructions on how to enable hidden files and folders to be visible. After enabling, reboot into safe mode by tapping F8 after the BIOS has loaded, find and delete the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\stcloader.exe
C:\Program Files\ClearSearch\ <-- folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\slmss\ <-- folder
C:\WINDOWS\mwsvm.exe

Reboot when done, rescan with HJT and post a new log here for a final check over.

So far so good. I followed your instructions and everything seems to be working. My one problem now is that I get an error message as I am shutting down. It is on the screen for less than 2 seconds, but the the computer shuts down on its own, so I can't actually transcribe what the error message is. It is something like "The instruction at [XXXXXX] referenced number [XXXXXXXX] cannot be read."

This is my new hijack this log

Thanks in advance . . .:
