      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.   EDIT: I have asked our hosting service to do the restore at 9 PM Central time and it looks like it will go forward at that time.  Please prepare whatever you need to prepare so that we can restore your topics when the forum is stable again.

Tried everything I know of, still at a loss

9 posts in this topic

I read through the FAQ, and tried everything suggested. Nothing worked. I continually get annoying pop-ups, some texts are highlighted in green, and the worst part is that whenever I do a google search I get a pop-up and have to click on page 2 of the search before it will go back to page 1.

Currently I have tried Spybot S&D, Ad-aware, Spysweeper, etc.

Please help, as I really am not fond of reformatting, unless I have to.

Thanks in advance.

I think this can be fixed without a reformat!

In Add/Remove Programs, check for an entry for Wintools. If found, uninstall it.

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

I tried doing everything you said, and I deleted almost everything. Ran into a problem though when I tried to uninstall Wintools from Add/Remove programs however. When I tried to uninstall it said "Other ad-powered software installed. Please remove it first". I then tried going to the Task Manager to stop running WtoolsA.exe and WToolsS.exe. but it said "The operation could not be completed. Access is denied". I went ahead and deleted everything else I could though, rebooted and deleted the files you suggested. After reboot I went ahead and tried Ad-aware once more but it still detected Clientman registry key, and 3 Data Miners. Not sure what to do next.

Yes, Wintools can be a pain in the *****!

Try rebooting into safe mode, and running Hijack this again.

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

Went into safe mode and did exactly as you said. Ran HijackThis, fixed the problems you pointed out and deleted the Wintools Folder all in safe mode, however I ran a search and couldn't locate the msgked.exe File. I'm assuming that it was deleted with HijackThis (I hope).

After rebooting once more, I ran Ad-aware again and found 6 data miners, no Clientman registry key, Thank god. Almost all of the problems are fixed now, but there's just one annoying thing left. Ironically its the main reason I wanted to fix it. Whenever I do a google search, I still get that annoying pop up and have to click on page 2 of the initial search page to get back to the first page.

Again not sure what to do about it.

Well, there is a known google hijacker that displays a set of search results on the first page. It does not show up in the Hijack this log, so it could be your problem.

Try this:

Copy the contents of the quote box to notepad:

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{CC905FF6-B553-496C-9DFA-CFF65ADCD0FC}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Filter\text/html]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\searchrep.SearchRepPP\CLSID]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\searchrep.SearchRepPP.1\CLSID]

Hit save as

save as filename: clear.reg

Under the filename set to all types, and save it to the desktop.

Close all IE's, double click the clear.reg

when asked to merge say yes.

Then search for and delete this file:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdhmd.dll

If you get a message that the file is in use, reboot and delete it.

See if that does the trick.

My computer is now back to the way it was before. I gotta really hand it to you Dave38, you really were a godsent. I figure most people come here and seek help, and after they've fixed their computer they just go away without a thank you.

I know I couldn't have done this by myself, and I just wanted to express my gratitude. Thank you so very very much.

P.S. Is it alright if I delete the clear.reg that I have on my desktop now?

Yes, you can delete that file, or save it somewhere in case you catch the same infestation again!

Glad we could help!
