      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Lots of ads, zestyfind keeps coming up

6 posts in this topic

I've been getting lots of pop ups recently and a search engine called zestyfind whenever I use google. I think it's a little file called inetadpt.dll 's fault but i can't seem to delete it. Norton doesn't detect any viruses either.

Here is my log file

Hello RachelG,

You do have a few infections there, so we might need to do a few steps.

Let's start with this first. You don't have HijackThis in a permanent folder, (such as C:\Program Files\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe).

This is needed to be done to allow backups to be made and saved by hijackthis, in case something goes wrong.

Follow this link http://www.netstar.me.uk/hjt/hjt.html if you need help.

--------------

Now download LSPfix here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Launch the application, and click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox.

Check all instances of inetadpt.dll (and nothing else) , and move them to the "Remove" pane.

Then click Finish.

Now restart your computer in safe mode, and find and delete that inetadpt.dll file itself.

Then Reboot.

-----------------

There appears to be some CoolWeb infection. Please download the latest version of CWShredder here:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe

Run it, then click "Fix" (not Scan only) and let it fix all the variants it finds.

Then Reboot.

----------------

Then, Download VX2Finder from this link, and save it to your Desktop.

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/VX2Finder.exe

( You might want to print this part, because you will not be on the internet to perform these steps)

Run Vx2Finder click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button. Then click *make log*.

Copy and paste the contents of the log into your next reply here.

-----------------

Sign off and stay off the internet until the entire procedure is complete.

Open VX2Finder and click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button.

Then select the *Delete these files* button.

You will be left with notice about one to be deleted on reboot.

It will ask to reboot on deletion of the last file (Reboot)

-----------------

Once back in Windows

Open VX2Finder again and click on these buttons in the right pane:

user agent, Guardian.reg, restore policy

Exit and reboot.

-----------------

Then, Open HijackThis, Click Scan, then put a check next to the following entries:

(some may not be here after doing the above)

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://mshp.dll/sp.html#37049

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://mshp.dll/sp.html#37049

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://mshp.dll/sp.html#37049

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25} - C:\Program Files\TV Media\TvmBho.dll

O1 - Hosts: 207.36.196.189 search.netscape.com

O1 - Hosts: 207.36.196.189 ieautosearch

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://207.188.7.150/17ad2b81bcb0fc606b20/...ip/RdxIE601.cab

Then, Close all open Windows and Browsers (have only HJT open) and Click "Fix Checked"

Next, reboot and delete this Folder:

C:\Program Files\TV Media\

----------------

Then, download AdAware, from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/.

Install The Program and Run it. Make Sure You Click the "Check for Updates" Button before starting a scan.

Before you do a Scan, set up AdAware by clicking the gear wheel at the top and check these options:

General> activate these: "Automatically save log-file" and "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"

Scanning > activate these: "Scan within archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep scan registry", "Scan my IE Favorites for banned sites" and "Scan my Hosts file"

Tweaks > Scanning Engine> activate this: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: activate these: "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Click "Proceed" to save your settings, then click "Start", make sure "Activate in-depth scan" is ticked green then scan your system. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

----------------

Reboot when done, and please run Vx2Finder once more and click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button. Then click *make log*.

Then, please post it here with a fresh HijackThis log.

Thanks for your help so far, much appreciated, is there anything lese I should do??

Hi RachelG,

Good job so far. Not sure about the LSPfix site, but I don't see the inetadpt.dll in your log any more either.

Can you please run Vx2Finder again, click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button. Then click *make log*.

Then post that new log here.

I would remove SpyHunter, as it's one of many programs that either install spyware themselves or are just plain garbage.

It is safe (and recommended ) to use Spybot and AdAware.

TV Media can be a little hard to remove sometimes.

Let's try removing it in safe mode.

Reboot to safe mode (Tap F8 while restaring)

Then open Hijackthis, click Scan, then put a check next to the followig entries:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25} - C:\Program Files\TV Media\TvmBho.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe

Then click "Fix Checked"

Then, while still in safe mode, delete this folder:

C:\Program Files\TV Media\

Reboot normally, and please post a new HijackThis log, along with a new Vx2Finder log.

Hey RachelG,

You're welcome.

You did good. I don't see any infections.

Here is some free protection you should consider:

Download and install:

SpywareBlaster will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm#IESPYAD

Check for updates occaisionally.

Don't forget to check for Windows Update's, to get the latest security patches http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

And also see

So how did I get infected in the first place?
