I had a bunch of spyware and stuff and I followed all the instructions from the post on how to remove that stuff and it helped a lot. You guys are awesome! However, I still have some problems that are cropping up. I have spybot S&D and I've locked my browser settings and I have the tea timer running that notifies me about bad downloads and stuff. I've eliminated all startup programs except the two that I want to run. Well sure enough: there is still something that's trying to re-hijack my browser. Here are the symtoms:

1. When I load IE Spybot notifies me of a registry entry being changed that points to ctfmon.exe. I looked up some info on this and it seems to be a MS program that is part of Office XP...one problem...I don't have Office XP. Is this a virus?
2. When I go into hotmail I get two warnings from spybot about bad downloads. "Avenue A Inc" and "DoubleClick".
3. when I run spybot the only thing it finds in startup are the two programs I want to run in startup. The only problems it finds when I scan is the "DSO Exploit". However, every time I fix this, reboot, and scan again it finds it again.
4. When I run Hijack this it doesn't show anything that looks wrong to me. I've removed all the bad stuff I could think of.

I have screencaps and logs but I wasn't sure if I should post them. Let me know if you need them. Thanks in advance for the help.

1 - a normal file to have. Go here for an explaination - http://www.liutiliti...library/ctfmon/

2 - Avenue A and DoubleClick are banner-related cookies, no biggie.

3 - That's normal. I've noticed that, too.

4 - You generally don't seem to have spyware, but if you want, I, or anyone else here, would be glad to look your log through just in case.

Thanks for answering. Oh...one more thing! I'm really sorry I forgot to put this in my list of symtoms

5. Every now and again some process puts an icon on my desktop for some casino website. Oh and I found that info on ctfmon as well. Only problem is: I also found some stuff on the net that suggested there are some viruses that basically masquarade as ctfmon to fool people into thinking it's running as a valid process. Like these:

Can anyone confirm this?

Can you please do the following...

Download Hijack This! Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\HJT\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

An expert will soon be around to take a look at your log. :)

Yeah dog no prob. I already cleaned up a bunch of stuff before my first post. It's lookin pretty clean to me. The last thing that's really annoying is this casino thing that keeps coming up. I think I may have a more insidious pest. BTW when I started my comp tonight I got an even more annoying popup that I couldn't close. I had to click the link to the install program to get it to go away. Now that I think of it that wasn't a good idea but anyway I aborted the install. Here is what it was linking to:

C:\Program Files\CasinoOnline\SetupCarnivalSAS000.exe

I don't do online gambling and I have no idea what that is about.

Here's my HT log. The stuff for the google toolbar and netants (a dl manager) are stuff I want to keep so I didn't get rid of those.

As you can see the only startup items are for goback (a recovery tool ), my UPS program, and Spybot. I can only assume this thing is hiding somewhere or in someway that HT and Spybot can't find. Any help is appreciated.
