Please create a new directory C:\HJT and move the HijackThis.exe file into that directory and only run it from there. That way we can ensure that we have the backup files aavilable in the event that they are needed.

How to Remove CoolWebSearch with CoolWeb Shredder <= Please click on this link for instructions on how to download and use CoolWebSearch Shredder which will help remove a CWS infection on your computer. Make sure you close all programs and windows before running it and be sure to click on the "Fix" button.

Run HijackThis, check off the following items and click on "Fix Checked":
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://solongas.com/hp.htm?id=9
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {0428FFC7-1931-45b7-95CB-3CBB919777E1} - (no file)

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?

Please cleanup temporary files etc. Browse to and select all contents in the following folders (Windows may be WINNT or WIN98 etc.), and delete (Make sure to delete the sub-folders, but not the Temp folders themselves!):
  • C:\Windows\Temp (all contents)
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files (all contents) <=This will delete all your cached internet content including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested.
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp (all contents)
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files(all contents)
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp (all contents)
  • Empty your "Recycle Bin"
  • C:\WINDOWS\System32\c9h6vm27p0x8x.dll
  • C:\WINDOWS\System32\sysstartup.exe

One of the infections that you have is the worm_baglex infection. Click on this link for a removal tool. Download it and run - It should help remove that infection.

Please go to Microsoft Windows Update and download all critical updates for your system. This is imperative - Specifically XP SP1 and IE SP1 - You have to get these installed ASAP.

Once updated, please post another HijackThis log here for additional review.

I would love to say you are in the clear but, unfortunately - Not yet as you have a new worm on your computer known as W32/RBot-A. Please go to this nai site to view the instructions on how to download and use stinger. Be sure to pay special attention to disabling system restore under point 3 - This is crucial for the erradication of the worm.

After you have run stinger - Reboot. Re-enable system restore and then run HijackThis - What we are looking for it to make sure that the following are no longer present:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Update] wuamgrd.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Update] wuamgrd.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Update] wuamgrd.exe

If it is still there, you can run Trendmicros freee on line scanner which will also remove the worm.

Also do a search on your computer for the file wuamgrd.exe and delete it - If it is still present or you cannot delete it, please let me know and I'll give you a procedure to remove it.

You also did not go to the Microsoft Update (as per my instuctions in this post) site and update your XP to SP1 or IE to v6 SP1 = This has to be done .

I used stinger, it didnt help, so i used Trendmicros free on line scanner and it detected:
DOS_AGBOT.GEN
WORM_GAOBOT.RP
WORM_RBOT.AE
i deleted these...and could not find those things u listed in my Hijackthis scan.

i think by deleting those, it automatically deleted wuamgrd.exe because i couldnt find it anywhere- but again, im not sure!!

Here is the most recent logfile of HijackThis. I hope the suckers are gone (if they arent- i am determined to beat them)!!!!!

Still a few to go ... (Also - XP is still not updated to SP1)

Run HijackThis and delete:
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html
O2 - BHO: My Search BHO - {014DA6C1-189F-421a-88CD-07CFE51CFF10} - C:\Program Files\MySearch\bar\1.bin\S4BAR.DLL

O3 - Toolbar: My &Search Bar - {014DA6C9-189F-421a-88CD-07CFE51CFF10} - C:\Program Files\MySearch\bar\1.bin\S4BAR.DLL
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows System Configuration Loader] smls.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows System Configuration Loader] smls.exe

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?

The following FILES, DIRECTORIES and DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory) need to be deleteed while in safe mode. Make sure your settings allow you to view "Hidden files". Open up any explorer windows and click on "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" and be sure to check off "Show Hidden Files and Folders". If the files etc lised are not present - Do not worry, just delete those that you can find. If no path is lited, you may need to search for the file(s) - To search, click on "Start" => "Search" => "For Files and Folders" .> "All Files and Folders" and type in the file name. You can delete it right from the search results window.
  • DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory)
    • C:\Windows\Temp\
    • C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <=This will delete all your cached internet content including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested.
    • C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
    • C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
    • C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
    • Empty your "Recycle Bin"
  • DIRECTORIES
    • C:\Program Files\MySearch
  • FILES
    • smls.exe
Reboot again and log in normally.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

Repost a new HijackThis log into this message for further review.

Your log is looking clean :)

If it says that there is a problem with your product key - It typically means that the copy of XP has had the verification circumvented. Is the copy a legal copy? If not, you should purchase one ASAP.
