Hi guys,

I have been browsing the web regarding the myexexex.com search bar problem and have come to the conclusion that this is indeed the problem that I have amongst other things.

So to start removal of this problem I have downloaded ad-aware and run it, but not with the specs I found on the web, I am at work at the mo. It found 11 items and got rid of them, it did not however get rid of the myexexex problem.

So to get rid of it I need to:

1) redo the ad aware scan using the parameters specified in the forums.

2) Download and run hijackthis and post the log file on this forum.

3) Once got advice remove files.

I take it it is dangerous to simply follow the instructions regarding someone elses HJT file since there's may not be exactly the same as mine.

Further, I also get the occaisional pop ups of stuff like casino things that I could also do with getting rid of. Will HiJackThis help with that as well?

And finally, I have just placed an order for Norton Internet Security 2004 Pro. Is this program sufficient enough at stopping programs like this invading my computer once I have removed all the beasties this time? I would rather not have to go through this painful process again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Regards,

Hello

You have a variant of the CoolWebSearch Trojan.

Please download CWShredder from http://www.spywarein...CWShredder.exe and run the program.

Press the "Fix" button, let it fix all variants.

Next, close the program and reboot.

After that do those 3 things:

1) redo the ad aware scan using the parameters specified in the forums.

2) Download and run hijackthis and post the log file on this forum.

3) Once got advice remove files.

Hi,

I must say I really do appreciate your help on this. Although the internet has spawned the problems that we are in fact dealing with now and the malicious people who continue develop virus programs, it is comforting to know that there are people out there willing to help. Thank you very much.

I have done as you said, run the CWShredder which appeared to remove several files. I have then run Ad - Aware in deep scan mode which removed over 140 items!! I then ran HiJackThis, of which I enclose the log file below.

Since the reboot after running Ad Aware in deep scan mode I have not had a problem with the search page redirection and as of about 15 minutes I have also had no pop ups which is nice.

I have the log file from the Ad Aware scan if that is any use as well, so please let me know.

Cheers

Go to Control Panel, open "Add Or Remove Programs", select "Red Swoosh EDN Client (remove only)" and remove it. After that, uninstall Spykiller, it's a baddie, then reboot and post a new Hijackthis log.

:gasp: Looks like you have a Trojan.Dropper on your system.

Run Liveupdate to make sure your Norton is fully up to date, disable system restore, boot into safe-mode and do a full system scan. Then reboot in normal mode and post a new log

How to boot into safe mode

Sorry if this is taking too long, just working through the stuff in your log a bit at a time and being interrupted :grrr:
