      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.   EDIT: I have asked our hosting service to do the restore at 9 PM Central time and it looks like it will go forward at that time.  Please prepare whatever you need to prepare so that we can restore your topics when the forum is stable again.

Explorer caused error in 4083708168.TMP

12 posts in this topic

I get this error everytime I start up. It says that explorer will close down. If you continue to have problems, restart computer. If you click ok, the computer locks up. If you ignore it, you can go on with other tasks, but you cannot get rid of the error box. It runs really slow and almost always boots in inactive desktop mode. I ran adaware and nuked 78 items. I ran spybot and cleaned up 16 more items. I clean up a similar amount every few days. I tried deleting all temp files, but I got an error that 4083708168.TMP could not be deleted because it was in use by windows. I booted in safe mode and deleted the temp files, but they came back when I restarted computer. I am running Windows ME. My kids spend a lot of tim using AOL IM, and things like Diaryland. I use popup stopper and when you are in IE, it sounds like a machine gun going off with all the blocks going on. Is there any hope? Attached is my hijack this log. I admit I do not understand it at all. I have a startup log and it looks way too messy, but I don't know where tO START>

Ok, you have many issues... let's start here...

It is recommended you run this uninstaller as you are infected with the PEPPER trojan: http://www.memorywatcher.com/uninst.exe

Make sure your internet connection is enabled as you need to be online for it to work properly. Run it twice.

Download and install Ad-aware found here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

After installing you need to download all updates for it. Use the Globe Icon in the program, and "Connect" to download latest Reference-file. Please update it before you scan with it then fix all it finds.

Now do the following:

- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine:

check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine:

Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Press "Scan Now"

- Check option "Use Custom scanning options"

- Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan"

- Press "Select drives\folders to scan"

- Select the active partition which is usually C:

Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives...

It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys. Click 'Next' again

Right-click in that pane and choose "select all"

If it finds "bad" files and registry keys, press "Next" again

It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.

Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot.

That ought to get rid of most of your spyware.

Go to C:\documents and settings \nick\local settings\temp

Select all files and delete.

Then get an online virus scan here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ Please select the Autoclean option when prompted.

or here: http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

After This, Reboot and Post a Fresh HijackThis log.

And well take it from there =)

First off, thank you for taking my case.

This is my latest. I tried to do the instructions verbatim. It took 2 solid hours for adaware to run. It deleted 389 items. After rebooting, their was not error in explorer message and things ran faster. I could not find anything like "C:\documents and settings \nick\local settings\temp". The virus scan found over 50 infections. They could not be deleted because they were in use. I tried booting in safe mode and deleting the folders and files that were called out and still could not delete for the same reason.

I need to get some sleep. I will not be able to try anything new until Thursday evening. Thanks again.

I cleaned up a few more things. I continue to get DSO exploit on Spybot. Adaware today was much cleaner, only 5 items. Progress. Any chance of helping me complete this? Thanks

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [JQ1HH] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\JQ1HH.EXE

Reboot, and delete the file C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\JQ1HH.EXE.

These may be hidden files. See HERE for how to show hidden files.

Your log shows that MSConfig is running at startup. This indicates that you may be using "diagnostic startup" rather than "normal startup", to stop something running. While this is OK, when looking for malware, it is possible that you have disabled it, and it will not then show up in the Hijack this log. Before posting a fresh log, would you please open MSConfig, and choose the "normal startup" option. Then everything will be running, and if anything needs removal, we can give appropriate advice.
