      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.

goherd,

You do have quite a bit in your log.

Will you please do both an online virus scan and an online Trojan scan? I suggest you use the Trend Micro virus scan and the Sygate Trojan scan. You will find links for these in my signature below. Reboot between each scan and let them fix anything they may find.

Reboot.

I see that you have Spybot S & D. Will you please make sure that it is updated, and then perform a scan.

Reboot, then download and install Ad-aware. You will find a link for it in my signature below, as well as a link that will take you to special instructions for configuring Ad-aware for a customized scan. Please print out and follow those instructions closely. Reboot after scanning.

Please post a fresh HijackThis log into this same thread and we will work on the remaining issues.

goherd,

You're very welcome. :)

Before we start, please create a new folder on the C: drive and name it C:\HJT or something similar. You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select "New" then "Folder" and name it HJT, or whatever you've decided to name it. Move HijackThis into this new folder so that the back-ups it creates will be confined to that folder and easy to locate if needed.

NOTE: Please print a copy of these instructions because you will be working with all windows closed except HijackThis.

Please run HijackThis and place a check mark next to the following items then, WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED, select “fix checked.” Please note that the items in BLUE are optional suggested fixes that do not remove the programs, only prevent them from running at start-up, and may have the added benefit of freeing up some of your system’s resources.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\WINNT\system32\SearchBar.htm

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O1 - Hosts: 207.44.240.65 rad.msn.com

O1 - Hosts: 216.93.174.28 view.atdmt.com

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe -osboot

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" –atboottime

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zhPZ8UZ] C:\documents and settings\keith perry\local settings\temp\zhPZ8UZ.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TB_setup] C:\DOCUME~1\KEITHP~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\tb_setup.exe /dcheck

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win Awake] C:\WINNT\system32\wincrr.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dsi] C:\WINNT\system32\dp-him.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sqsk35V] middll.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WTSS] C:\WINNT\system32\wapisvsu.exe

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

O4 - Global Startup: RealDownload.lnk = C:\Program Files\Real\RealDownload\Realdownload.exe

If the following two 06 items were restrictions placed by you, using a program such as Spybot Search and Destroy to lock your home page, leave them in place. IF YOU DID NOT SET THESE RESTRICTIONS, fix them with HijackThis:

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

O8 - Extra context menu item: Coupons - file://C:\Program Files\couponsandoffers\System\Temp\couponsandoffers_script0.htm

Fixing the following 016 items removes the active-x controls. Should you make use of these programs/sites in the future, the active-x controls will be re-installed:

Next, change your settings to show hidden files and folders. Then reboot into safe mode and delete the following files:

C:\documents and settings\keith perry\local settings\temp\zhPZ8UZ.exe < file

C:\DOCUME~1\KEITHP~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\tb_setup.exe < file

C:\WINNT\system32\wincrr.exe < file

C:\WINNT\system32\dp-him.exe < file

middll.exe < file

C:\WINNT\system32\wapisvsu.exe

Reboot, scan with HijackThis and post a fresh log to this same thread.

goherd,

Some of the files do disappear when other fixes are applied. If they can't be located, in safe mode and with hidden files shown, then they just may not be there to be found.

Your log certainly looks much better now; however, this one item still remains to be fixed:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win Awake] C:\WINNT\system32\wincrr.exe

Then delete the following file (if it still remains) in safe mode and with hidden files shown:

C:\WINNT\system32\wincrr.exe < file

Reboot.

Next, go to Start > Control Panel > Internet Options and, on the "General" tab, select "Delete Files;" on the popup box, select "Delete all offline content."

Now go to Start > Run and type in %temp%, click, "OK." Delete all files in that folder.

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Windows\Temp and empty that folder.

Please pay a visit to the Microsoft Windows Update page and check to see that you have ALL critical updates installed. Lack of current Service Packs and Critical Update Patches sends an open invitation to malware.

Last, but far from least, please take a couple of minutes to read the short article in the link below, "How did I get infected in the first place?" You will find valuable information on preventing future infections, as well as links to additional free anti-spyware tools that you may add to your arsenal.

Nonsuch,

I took your advice and just ran spybot and it came back clean...Thanks very much.

We'll hopefully see this post fade into oblivion :)
