Spyware has embedded itself into the system.

Running Windows XP.
Yahoo DSL connection.

Problems:
1. About:blank is not blank, comes up with a search topics screen.
2. Various Popups comeup stating that I have Spyware. (at every screen click)
3. Computer has been running slow.

Actions taken to date:
1. Purchased and scanned with Adware. finds the infected files, but cannot clean.
Ran 20 scans,each time finds a problem.
2. Read FAQs
3. Deleted all *.hta files
4. Found 221 *.js files (too much to look at, so I did nothing in this area)
5. Deleted all *.tmp files
6. Ran Hijack This, log below.

Hi Papo

First go here and download http://tools.zerosrealm.com/dllfix.exe
Save it to your desktop and double click dllfix.exe . Follow the prompts-
Now go to the dllfix folder and double click the start.bat and choose option #1
This will search for the “bad” file and create a report in Notepad. Copy and paste that report back into this thread. Also post a new HJT log.

Hi
Now run start.bat again and this time choose #2.At the next menu choose #2 again.
You will receive a message that your computer will reboot in 15 seconds. After your computer reboots you will get a screen and Notepad will open with a report in it. Reboot your computer again and download CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom
Check for an update just to make sure you have the latest version. Click fix and let it delete whatever it finds. Be sure you click fix and not scan only.
Run HJT again and check and click fix checked for the following-

OlTramp,

It appears that the issue has been resolved.

First of all I would like to sincerely thank you. I will be making a donation to the Spyware info site.

I would like to state that your help was concise, efficient and very professional. You should be proud of your skills and knowledge.

In a way, this was a good experience. As with any misfortune there is a lesson to be learned, with the end result making you stronger.

Some personal thoughts, observations, and reflections.

1. There are people like yourself that do good in the world.

2. Knowledge and technology growth is exponential, so all our systems and lives are getting infinitly more complicated. As the world is trending towards a reality of the have and have nots (the gap between the poor and rich is growing). I believe that the same dynamic is working in the information realm.

There will be those that can keep up with technology, can manage it, and us it to their advantage, and the rest that can't.

I thank you again, and wish you good fortune.
