OK..here's the thing...after installing some programs from windows liveupdate..I've recently been bombarded by popups without me going to any internet site. It will just pop up out of nowhere. If I leave my comp on...30 min later a pop up just shows. I also seem to be getting tracking cookies like every hour or so. I even once had 2 common hijackers that spybot picked up. I used hijackthis and here is the log. I also use Adaware and Spybot. What do you guys say? Can you please help me?

Please create a new directory C:\HJT and move the HijackThis.exe file into that directory and only run it from there. That way we can ensure that we have the backup files available in the event that they are needed.

How to Remove CoolWebSearch with CoolWeb Shredder <= Please click on this link for instructions on how to download and use CoolWebSearch Shredder which will help remove a CWS infection on your computer. Make sure you close all programs and windows before running it and be sure to click on the "Fix" button.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and then place a check mark in the following boxes, And click on "Fix Checked":
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://kznijb.t.muxa.cc/s.php?aid=586 (obfuscated)
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://kznijb.t.muxa.cc/s.php?aid=586 (obfuscated)

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?

The following FILES, DIRECTORIES and DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory) need to be deleteed while in safe mode. Make sure your settings allow you to view "Hidden files". Open up any explorer windows and click on "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" and be sure to check off "Show Hidden Files and Folders". If the files etc lised are not present - Do not worry, just delete those that you can find. If no path is lited, you may need to search for the file(s) - To search, click on "Start" => "Search" => "For Files and Folders" .> "All Files and Folders" and type in the file name. You can delete it right from the search results window.
  • DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory)
    • C:\Windows\Temp\
    • C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <=This will delete all your cached internet content including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested.
    • C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
    • C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
    • C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
    • Empty your "Recycle Bin"
  • DIRECTORIES
    • C:\Program Files\nzsearch
  • FILES
    • Nothing Yet
Reboot again and log in normally, repost a new HijackThis log into this message for further review.

Your log is looking clean :)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

Thanks for the help. I'll most likely keep sending a Hijacklist log in an attempt to keep an update on what's going on in case you catch something that I don't as well as any other problems I get. I really appreciate the help.

UPDATE: well..everything seems to work except for one thing. Everytime I use adaware to check for spyware...it picks up about 5 registry files and 3 files/folders all labeled "possible hijack attempt" or something like that. Also, with spyware guard on..I keep getting alerts of my homepage being changed from what it's supposed to be to something called http://www.topotun.com/index.htm (I think that's the exact thing) every 10-15 minutes or so. Not to mention that everytime this alert pops up, I get for addresses added to my favorites folder (they are free hidden cams world, free spy cam, free web cams chats, and get this for free). No idea about this one so I cleaned out what I could with adaware, spybot, cwshredder, and what I knew about hijackthis. Here is my current log after doing all that so you can add your expert opinion:

  • Uninstall "Broadjump Client Foundation" through "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel.
  • Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and then place a check mark in the following boxes, And click on "Fix Checked":
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://stowa.keenspace.com/
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BJCFD] C:\Program Files\BroadJump\Client Foundation\CFD.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [kerberos] C:\WINDOWS\System32\kerberos.exe <= This one concerns me. The file is valid for Active Directory but I have never seen it under XP Home? Let's remove it and see if anything stops working - We will have a backup so we do not need to worry.
    O4 - Global Startup: winlgn.exe
    O8 - Extra context menu item: &iSearch The Web - res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\toolbar.dll/SEARCH.HTML
  • The following are OPTIONAL to delete as they are resource hogs or not needed:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE
    O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE
  • Post another HijackThis log when done so we can confirm that all is clear.

been a while since I updated here..but here we go. Everything still seems clean, but I can't seem to get rid of CWS.jksearch that my CWShredder is finding and says that it removes it everytime I run it. But next time I do...it is removed again. Not to mention that my internet speed has slowed down. Any help is appreciated. Here is my latest log from HijackThis:

just going to bump just this once since I haven't been help for a bit for my last post. I'll then submit any bumps to that thread listing where to find unanswered problems.
