I have run updated ad-aware 6 and spybot scans. I also use the spybot TeaTimer, and SpywareBlaster.

Recently my computer has been hanging up for about 2 seconds then running normally for one second or so and repeating this pattern forever. I also tried 3 times to do a virus scan with updated Norton 2003 and it mysteriously stops each time in the same folder (possibly the same file) and never completes the scan.

Other than the horrible system performance (and some possibly related problems ripping, editing, and transferring mp3 files) I have seen no evidence of ad ware and nothing is really taking up much system resources when I bring up the task manager.

Hopefully you guys will be able to help.

Here is my HijackThis log:

No, there aren't any processes that show high cpu usage when I go into the task manager.

Actually I just ran the free virus scan at Trend Micro website and it said I had the Stile A trojan (I think that was the name) and I deleted the .exe file it found in my temporary files. I'm going to run a virus scan in safe mode now (which I know I probably should have done first) and see if that will help at all.

Alright, no luck scanning in XP safe mode, Norton 2003 still locks up around the 200,000 file mark in the same directory that it was dying in before. I am also reasonably sure that I still have the virus (though I haven't yet been able to run another full system scan online at TrendMicro.com) because of the horrible performance.

Hopefully I've done enough to help point someone in the right direction.

Its been a few days so heres a bump + new info.

I am 90% sure that the reason my computer is so busy is because this trojan is deleting folders from my harddrive. Evevery time I turn it on it seems that more and more folders appear to be there but cause the system to hang when I try to access them. I think this is what was stopping Norton from finishing earlier too.

Here are some more things I've done/found out since the last post that might help.

- I have run another scan at www.trendmicro.com and it said I was clean (lies!).
- I downloaded and ran trojan hunter and it said that there were no trojans on my computer or in memory (even while the trojan was going in the background, more lies!).
- There is a strange hidden and undeletable folder on each of my two harddrives in the root directory called "RECYCLER" that contains one executable file with a very long randomly created name. Yeah, I'm grasping at straw here.

There is no way I can back up these files since this thing is taking up almost all my system resources. I am just going to have to leave it off until someone is free to help.

Here's the new log, I see absolutely nothing suspicious in it but I hope it helps anyway.
